Bartrum/Appleton match question

Bartrum was getting the called 8. Who had control over where the 8 was placed in the break rack? Or was their a fixed position? Also- If Bartrum called the 8 in the corner on the break and it fell-Is that qualify as the "called 8".

I will post the answer tomorrow late night.I will be having dinner with him tommorrow and I will find out about it.I was with him tonight for few drinks but I did not read this post when I was with him. Last night he beat a local short stop vince tedesco giving him 9-6 and break in one pocket game.:cool:

Generally, a spotted ball is racked behind the one ball because that is the most difficult ball to make on the break. If he calls it on the break it counts.

Darren got to choose where the 8 was placed in the rack on Chris' break, and Chris got to choose where it was placed on Darren's break.

Darren placed it next to the 10 ball, and Chris was calling the side closest to the 8. I saw one go in for the win (but I didn't watch every game).

True for 9 ball. In 10 ball, the 2nd row balls are pretty easy to steer twoeard the side pockets on a break shot hit hard from center table. The third row is much less likely to be pocketed and almost impossible to steer toward a pocket.

8 ball placement

i was there for 4 hours mon, the eight was behind the one on either side, chris would call it in the opposite side pocket. it went toward the side he called many times only to get kicked by another ball.

Chris has to call 8 on all the occasions-break or during the run.
Darren will decide where 8 has to be in the rack.:cool:.

I think you may have been looking at it wrong. From watching it on the stream, the eight was in the third row most of the time. The third row outside balls in a ten ball rack will go to the opposite side pocket. The balls in the row immediately behind the one will go in the same side pocket. Darren would never have told Chris to put the eight in the second row, as that is the easiest place to "steer" a ball from the break, depending on where you break from. Not saying you were wrong, as I did not watch every minute of the stream.
