So, who else sees all the faces in the piece on the right in the picture on the bottom with the 4 pieces! Haha.. I've spent a while looking at it and there's no less than 12 distinct faces in the pattern! Haha.. maybe my imagination is too active? Ha

Was it done with one of them there vacum stabilizers?

Very Sweet Stuff Larry.

Just being objective. It doesn't look real to me, I mean like wood. I wouldn't want it in my cue. No offense intended. I got a lot out of the former thread, and was then intrigued by preserved wood, or whatever you call it, but now I don't see it as being as pretty as simple wood. I realize you can't use some wood without stabilizing it, but I think it looks plastic-like. Just my opinion. The last couple threads dealing with this have been great, and saved me alot of what I now consider, unnecessary effort. Thanks to all and, again, no offense intended. And Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't understand that at all. Many cues are stained, all veneers are dyed, there are so many less than "natural" products that go into cue building, why is this any different?

Honestly, the way I see it is this just enables us to use some wood that wouldn't otherwise be usable. You can't deny that it looks awesome, if you can then you really don't appreciate the natural beauty of wood. Nothing has chnaged about the grain of the wood, nothing has even accentuated the look after the finish is applied other than it may be a little darker than it would be normally. I'd bet anything that you wouldn't be able to differentiate between a cue with a stabalized wood vs. a cue without. You're only limiting yourself from owning some of the most exotic looking cues for no reason, no?

I have been rather reluctant to wade into this debate, because it requires a lot of time and effort to type out all of the reasons why things are done the way they are done....

I will get into the details here soon...... BUT I think I have to try and follow Tom's lead and do some sort of "giveaways" for the holiday season. Something we can have a little fun with....

Please explain "Stabilized" wood. I just started turning pens on a spindle lathe. Some of the woods and blanks offered are stabilized. Thanks

BTW...nice looking batch you have there. Should be outstanding when finished.

This about sums it up. Unless you are pressure dying or using a tinted resin you cannot tell when looking at the finished product.
