Baton Rouge and NOLA

NOLA:
Depends on what you want...

Corner Pocket on Williams Blvd in Kenner. Quiet, some action.

Buffalo's Billiards on Airline Drive in Metairie. Probably more action. Not the best neighborhood.

Fox and Hound on Elmwood in Harahan (yeah, I said it...) Family place, Zero action, Nice 9ft diamonds, serves food, big screen TVs, attractive waitresses, but $10/hr rates. (Pool is FREE between 11am and 2pm on weekdays.)

what about Bayou Billiards

What about Bayou Billiards in Baton Rouge? Been there a long time, looked like a serious pool hall when I stumbled through it a few years back and the last I knew somebody that was willing to get in the grease either owned it or ran it, or so I heard, second hand info. Lou, you should love the tables. They are like me, old and slow!

Naturally I assume you are coming to "the world's pool hall" Buffalo's in Metairie.

Not far out your way, there is supposed to be an outstanding hall in Thibodeaux now. You can get better infor from Doc Hutch or LnL I suspect, I haven't been getting around much lately.

Hello Hu, and Lou,
You told Lou right Hu, about the Worlds pool Hall, Buffalo's Billiards, in Metairie, Louisiana! Home of some heavy hitters too! After you come to the Worlds pool Hall the rest of the pool halls will be just that, pool halls!!!!
Good to hear you coming to our fair city, Lou!
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

The pool hall in Thibadoux is called Cue Sports. Its in the middle of college town and always has college girls in it. Also usually always has some action. 7ft Diamond Smart tables(6).

Thanks for the tips, Hu. I heard BB is a 24 hour joint -- is that so?

Thanks for the welcome Lock N Load. I guess I'll have to check it out.

But rather than heavy hitters, I'd be more interested in some medium to light hitters :-)

My college girls stage is way, way past me now. But thanks, it was a good thought, Stone Cold.

Both buffs and corner pocket are 24 hour places... Buffs is in a rough area, corner pocket is the place to shoot the breeze and play some pool if your looking for a nice atmosphere to hang out... If your looking for big action, buffs would be the better place... Both places have action for any speed though.

tuda, everyone keeps mentioning that BB is in a rough neighborhood... I've been to more than one pool hall situated in rough areas, but now ya'all got me wondering: how rough we talking?

Buff does what he can to make sure his patrons aren't bothered, but it's still a bad area... After all it is new Orleans... I dont personally go there just because of the area, but buff does what he can to protect his customers... Are you coming to the area alone? Or will you be traveling with others? I would recommend going to Jamie's place (corner pocket) if your alone, alot of good people over there, and im sure there is someone that can follow you to buffs place and show you around... Something I've always like to do in the new Orleans area, travel in groups of at least 2... You dont look like such an easy target that way.

not bad

Lou,

You have been in rougher places while you were still sucking on your mama's tit! Buffalo Billiards is on Airline near Causeway. There are a few hookers walking the highway and no doubt a few illegal substances floating around. I've never had trouble in or near Buffalo's and I've spent a good bit of time in the area. Worked nearby back years ago too. The closest thing to trouble I had was when some yuppie piece of sh!t came in. He thought he was slumming, too loud, too foul mouthed, kept sitting his wet water bottle against my new leather case. Fair sized fellow, looked like he spent a lot of time in the gym. Third time I had to move his water bottle away from my case I hummed it into the garbage can like a Nolan Ryan fast ball. He whined like the b!tch he was and found another place to put the new water he went and bought.

Corner Pocket is in a slightly better neighborhood but only very slightly. I usually played the same people both places when I used to go to Corner Pocket. Neither one is what you would mistake for an upscale yuppie hangout. In Buffalo's you can gamble with anyone from Buff on down and be sure of nothing raw going down if you win. Jamie Ferrall that owns Corner Pocket is fine to gamble with at Buffalo's. In his own place he has stiffed more than one person who took down the cash then threatened to call the law! His place, his rules. Jamie's dad Harry is good folks but the better half hit the wall the night Jamie was made. I ride right past Corner Pocket to drive another five miles to play at Buffalo's. Better tables, better people, better everything in my opinion. Buffalo is one of the top three or four pool hall owners I have ever seen.

Good grief! This is the first time someone has recommend not going to a pool hall by meself... So just one more question, is there a parking lot at BB or would I be looking for a spot somewhere on the street?

Lou Figueroa

ive been to both places, and i feel more comfortable at jamies than i do buffs... but thats because i travel alone, and i dont know many people in the area, and ive just started playing again after a 10 year layoff, and until i get somewhat of a stroke back, i dont want people hounding me to play...

like i said before, in my honest opinion, buffs place is the place to go for big action, if your looking to play some pool, relax and shoot the breeze, i recommend corner pocket...

i dont know about shooting arts bias of jamie, ive never heard anything bad about him the way he puts it, not saying it isnt true, just dont personally know of anything sketchy like that, ive seen him play several times in his place, and he's always been a gentleman from what ive seen... but i dont get out that much either.

i guess it all just depends on what your looking for... im not trying to scare you away from buffs place, like i said, buffalo always does what he needs to do to make sure everyone is safe i just dont personally go there. I would recommend checking both places out, and make your decision for yourself.

OK, great info. Thanks again Hu. Sounds like something I can handle.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I want to say that I was in Jamie's place a long time ago. I can't recall the details, I just remember the cloth being old and it being super humid in the room.

If I see you I will be sure to not place my beer bottle anywhere near your case :-)

i didnt mean it like that my friend... thats just the way i look at things, but back when i was playing all the time, i was in atlanta and had a gun pulled on me in the parking lot of a poolhall, so maybe i just look at things differently... like ive said before, buff does what he needs to do to make sure his patrons are safe... i just personally dont go there.

Fair enough and yeah, I'll probably check out both places so I can at least say I've been. But usually when there are multiple rooms in an area I'll settle down at just one.
