Battle scars

Anybody almost feel a sense of relief when their precious cue finally gets that 1st ding on the butt of the cue (shaft is unacceptable, and I would fix ASAP)?

It's almost like, OK, finally, I can relax and play with this cue now! I have my cues to play with, and am not a collector. These cues are mine, and I have no intention of selling them today, tomorrow, or any day, and don't care about their perceived "market value".

Anybody else experience this strange phenomenon, or is it just me revealing a strange glitch?

I think that it MUST happen...

For some reason, I think that in the back of my mind...I "try" to damage my new cues somehow. It must be, because out of three new custom cues that I've bought in the last 2 years -- within a week or two of using them, I've managed to ding the shaft or the butt...(one shaft I actually hit on the fireplace and gouged it good...ouch).

But no, I am not relieved at all. I am very anal with my cues...and it drives me nuts and ticks me off when it happens...but for some reason, it keeps happening...

Must be something like if you want so bad for something NOT to happen, your "mind" needs the relief....so it ends-up sneaking in a "ding" when you not fully aware...

yeah i like it when my cues show a little character. it's funny 'cause i don't mind a ding at all if i put it there but if some jerk knocks it down and it gets dinged i feel like it's a blemish

you know what a friend of mine puts a ding in his shafts on purpose. he puts it right where his backstroke ends

Oh, no doubt. Nobody puts a ding in my cue but me.

And yes, I am very meticulous about the care of my cue, and condition of shaft/tip. I care take jealous care of my equipment. But, in the heat battle, anything can happen!

I know what you mean!.....I actually went a year with my last cue then sold it unmolested somehow?! My current player (2 months) has hit 3 coffee tables and the floor once......also with no damage somehow :)

I know what you mean. With my first cue (a Viking F-86 Stained Black with Blue Pearl Rings) I was very 'protective' of it for the first few months. That was until my buddy and me were in the basement shooting around and I had leaned my cue against the side of the table while I was racking and it started to slide and I couldn't grab it in time and it hit this pipe that sticks out of the floor a couple inches and put a chip in the forearm, it's only about 1/8" dia, but it still noticeable. Especially on a black cue.

I now put my cue on the table when I rack. And I haven't been as careful with my cues and nothing else has happened to any of them.

I think it is like when you are trying to be really quite in the morning and not make a lot of noise so you don't wake anyone else up, but you end up making a loud noise somehow.
