BCA Leagues: Rack your own?

So i showed up at league play to night to find out that the
Western BCA has gone to rack your own. Then i got to watch master players do a 9 ball break and break and run show.

Do other BCA leagues practice rack your own? How is it at nationals?

If it's rack your own is there a rack order everyone has to follow? I would think that is the only fair way.

When you say, "a 9 ball break and break and run show", are you saying that there were a lot of 9's going in on the break?

I've never played in a BCA 9-ball league. At the BCA National 8-ball Championships, the 8-ball matches were rack-for-each-other. Is there a BCA 9-ball Nationals? The Qlympics maybe? The "Early Bird" 9-ball tournament (at the 8-ball Nationals, 7' tables) was rack-your-own. Unfortunately, since the 9-ball counts as a win on the break, it creates a new set of problems.

I hope that eventually, all 9-ball becomes rack-your-own, and 9's on the break don't count as a win. That's the most fair way, by far, in my opinion.

At that tournament, there were no special instructions on racking order, as far as I know. I have a rack order that I like, but in tournaments I don't use it because you're supposed to rack with a "random" order.

Nationals is rack your own. Your opponent can inspect the rack and ask for a re-rack. I think the rack order has not changed, just that its rack your own. I like it. If there was a problem with the rack you cant blame your opponent.

The only problem I found at the Early Bird 9-ball event at the BCA Nationals 8-ball, was that if your opponent happens to be a jerk, he may get a little nasty when you ask for a re-rack. One guy I played had the nine-ball flying around every time he broke, while I was giving myself an honest rack (tight 9-ball) and my 9-ball stayed put every break.

So I inspected the guy's rack, and asked him to re-rack due to the gap between the 9 and one of the balls behind it. He played ignorant, I explained, he said he never heard of that and basically mocked me for it. Then he asked me to re-rack mine, saying there was the same 1 mm gap in my rack... when it was totally obvious that there wasn't. LOL.

What I should have done was to get the ref involved to handle the guy, who was using "all" the tricks in the book to try to shark me. But why should we have to even deal with that? It would be so much easier to simply make it rack-your-own, and the 9-ball doesn't count on the break. I'd never check another person's rack again.

Before our 9 Ball league went BCA, we were already doing 'rack your own', and it has worked out well. As to racking order, I believe the only requirement is that the 1 is head ball, 9 in the middle, 8 in back. I do agree with making a 9 on the snap as not a win, like in BCA 8 Ball, where an 8 on the break is not a win and the 8 is spotted.
