BCA Pool 'Sketches' (Updated)

Just a couple shots I took at the BCA Tourny-Las Vegas last week. Had a great time!! Saw some fantastic pool playing, AND got to see a bunch of old friends. How can you beat that....??

I just got back to Az, (and DSL) and willl be posting more sometime soon.

I really like these ...

These type of drawings, I think, would interest the
average Joe (or Josephine) who doesn't even play
Pool.I couldn't help but notice that Gabe's chin is
just right of his stick, and the next one Tang's chin
is just left of his stick.
 
Great job Rick, you get better and better every time you post pics. I've been practicing and this is just a sample of what I can do, so far, lol. J/K, just having some fun. Peace, John.

I take it that you're talking to me, right? Well, let me tell ya, I've got countless seconds involved in the transformation of my pictures to the sketch you see above and some may think it's easy, but it's actually very time consuming and tedious work. I do it for my fans though because that's what it's all about, my fans. (Jeez, I think it's time for my meds.) :D :D :D

Hey Scott, I think that may be an indicator of which is their dominate aiming eye eh?

What's your opinion?

I like the drawings...seriously...look nice and different than just a normal snapshot. Much better for displaying. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I just went out and bought another 2500.00 in camera gear, I hope they are getting better!!

Actually I do have some for sale, as well as the photos I took them from. I can take these things up to poster size, if needed.

I do 'personal' sketches as well.

I'm planning on doing a BUNCH of them at the BCA tournament in Las Vegas in May. If your there, I can hook you up with one....If not, you can send me a high quality photo, and I'll do it. (don't have to be pool related!)

They work out great in poolrooms, public or private.

Could be Shorty, but it just might mean they have a short
muscle on one side in the back or neck, and have to hold
their head that way or it starts aching, and gives them a
headache. I never realized the importance of having proper
alignment and how it effects you until I had back trouble after
a car accident and ended up going to a chiropractor over 2 years.
 
Since I assume you are not using a flash. Is that digital or high speed film?

Looks awsome, great effect.

I'm shooting digital. Nikon D70 S, along with a 80-200 Nikon 2.8 lens. I'm not using flash.

Court artist?? Your CLOSE.....Court Jester is more like it.

Actually I was in the graphic arts bus. way back when I used to work. I have dabbled with photography for 30 yrs or so.

Rick, are these photos that you traced over and just colored in, or did you really sketch all of them by hand without tracing a photo? They look so lifelike.

I have no idea which one was there when you asked this question but the one he has up now is me.

Jeff, I must say that I'm honored. ;) While the skinny me wasn't too hard on the eyes, I never did hold a candle to the women you've had up here lately. I'll take your using my pic as a compliment. Thanks luv! :cool:

It's over a 100 step process in Photoshop to achieve this effect. It can be quite time consuming, especially when you get into changing backgrounds, and the like.

It's a process I have been working on for about 5 yrs now. All of them are different, and treated as so. Some want to go in one direction, and others take a different route.

It's just a little different than 'normal' photography. Some people like it, some people hate it. I have fun playing with it, and it sure occupies my time!


I'm adding a couple more images to the 1st post too.
