It is my understanding that tomorrow, April 17, 2010 all the BCAPL League Operators will be meeting to discuss setting up a Master's Division. I hope this does not happen. Hopefully they will learn from the VNEA's mistake. VNEA started that and lost alot of teams to the BCAPL. What happens is like your local pool tournaments. One person wins most of the time so the lesser players complain and the guy gets bared. The lesser players thinks that because that guy is now out of the picture they have a better chance of winning. What they don't understand, is that there is somebody waiting in the wing to take that persons spot. After a while the tournament goes down hill because it loses all the players.

I could see the better teams having to spot games but please don't create a separate division.

If the final decision is to set up another division I hope the League Operators make it that the OPEN Division pays only half of that of the higher divisions.

Maybe it will be time to look for another league that does not discriminate againist the better players.

I think I may be missing something here. Will you be forced to play in the masters division.....or will it be by choice. If it is a matter of choice then this is a pointless arguement IMHO. The addition of a masters division would be doing precisely what you desire.....it allows the advanced player to be recognized and provides a level of competition above that of regular league play. This does away with discrimination by eliminating handicaps hopefully.

This makes no sense to me. I'm a league operator, in AZ, and I am not voting on any issue like this.

It sounds like maybe your area operators are trying to put together a Masters Division or something.

Individual leagues are able to run their leagues however they like. The only recognized "Master" (And "Team Master") players are the national ones and they only have to play in the correct divisions at the National level.

Many states have their own State Masters lists, but that is a different story.

This doesn't make sense to me either.

If people don't want an especially high level player to be in their league/tournament and he has a division to go where he can play people who are more his speed... they win because they have a fair chance and he wins because he gets real competition instead of clubbing baby seals.

And if someone is always waiting in the wing to take his spot, then how does the tournament lose all their players? It sounds like the empty spot is easily filled.

Really, if a league dies because a handful of very strong players decide to play a different league... then something else is wrong.
