Be Careful Dealing With Anyone From China & Taking Payment Via PayPal

I know someone that had a cue and sold it to someone in asia via paypal. My buddy shipped the cue. Then paypal claimed it was paid for with a stolen credit card and took the money back. My buddy got screwed because its not covered.

I have never had any issue with paypal.

However I am going to stop using them entirely for transactions. It is just as I get older I have lost respect for people that make money holding other peoples money. They are overpaid!

That's ok for you if you don't do that many transactions. But if you are very active on the net then you will find that it's extremely useful to be able to accept and pay using paypal.

Just like any payment system there are risks. Even cash can be counterfeit and if you end up getting paid with fake bills then no one is going to reimburse you.

PayPal provides a service. For me it's a hugely helpful one. Someone pays me via PP and I can withdraw the money immediately from any ATM. It's cheaper than Western Union, cheaper than wire transfers, and much more accessible. It's roughly the same price to accept paypal as it is to accept credit cards. Actually cheaper as there is no monthly fee.

They handle hundreds of millions of dollars per day and have to do it with some level of security for the users that is reasonably safe and acceptable. Anyone who uses them has to be aware of the rules and risks.

I have been a paypal user for ten years and have had very few issues with them. I find that they are not overpaid for the level of service I get, especially when compared to other forms of accepting distant payments.

Lenny,
Canadians need love too. We are just your little brother with more oil and less guns.

I have had this happen a few times with DVDs, I believe people out there are out to get free stuff at small fries like ourselves expense. I will not ship out of the country unless its a confirmed address which seems to only be in Canada, anyplace else does not have confirmed addresses I believe so as subdude said, your not protected by Paypal and most times when your item leaves the country it cannot be tracked like here is the US. I refuse to ship outside of the US unless its a confirmed address or its someone on AZ with iTrader, what a pain to spend the money to ship the item, fill out customs forms, lose the item and the money, not worth my time.

I'm not going to name a name at this time. Rather, I going to give all AZ users fair warning. In Janaury 2011, I did a transaction with a guy in China for a $900.00 cue, took payment by PayPal and had no issues. The same guy agreed to wire me funds for my Sugartree flame cue this past Saturday, failed to do so and claimed that his bank could not wire funds on a Saturday and that he could not get to the bank during the work week. He then sent me a PayPal payment and requested that I ship the cue to someone with a different name, shipping address and phone number than the name, shipping address and phone number used in connection with our January 2011 transaction. I sent him an email about this this morning and got no reply. I just refunded his money in full via PayPal because PayPal offers no protection to sellers who ship when an unauthorized credit card charge is made. The guy has 100% positive feedback here on AZ and I know some of the folks here on AZ who have sold him a cue. Just wanted to give all a fair warning. Be careful when dealing with any buyer you don't know or who does not have a long history of postiive transactions who pays with PayPal. You are at risk of losing your money.

My opinion, I wouldn't complete the transaction. FWIW, I think your 'gut' or 'intuition' is telling you something...

No question about. My point is be very careful when taking payments via PayPal from anyone who does not have a serious track record of doing business on the Net. I am convinced I just avoided a $3,000 plus scam.

My point is Crooks are all over! So be careful even dealing with people were you live like Kentucky, that even has a place for convicted criminals called jails and prisons.
