Beating a "somewhat" dead horse. (Re: the state of our sport)

Thanks! Steve did a FABULOUS job!! That vid didn't include Ashley, tho - the one he worked over 150 hours on. Which, I still feel very bad it took that long. :(

Your right ...... geeese. I mixed the other videos up with that. I did the same thing to Steve and he set me straight. It was the One Pocket break with the "secret" instructor. You nailed it toward the end and I'd bet pockets full that you are now going to nail a lot more. Don't feel bad, believe me, Steve did it knowing how long it would take and with a smile all the way. He's a trooper that one!

My point is Pool is what it is. I LOVE pool. Most of us do, or we wouldn't be on this site. But the truth is pool was more popular 100 years ago than it is today. The billiards industry has been trending down for a long, long time. It is very tough to buck a trend like that, as it reflects the buying habits of the country as a whole. It has become a niche pastime popular with only a limited number of folks who actually spend money on the sport.

Just because it's not popular doesn't mean it ain't "Cool".

I don't care, I love it, and I play it, Popular or not.

I agree with this except it might not be so much that pool has trended down as television sports have trended way up. There are more people playing pool than ever, just not nearly as many interested in watching compared to other sports.

What I try to do is help people have fun at pool whatever the situation might be.
Expanding player interest on a one on one basis I think is the best way to help the sport. You don't have to be a pro level player to do this, (it helps though) but leading by example and getting people fired up to play I believe is the most constructive thing any individual can do.

I dont think the game gets nearly enough exposure..Exposure to how much skill is involved, how fun it is to play, and how social it really can be..I live in Chesapeake beach MD and we have absolutely no where to play at all except the local American legion which only has 2 small tables..So here Its simple in my parts..If you dont have your own table you cant play or dont play..Most of the pool halls and Billiard stores all across MD have shut down..Out of sight truly is out of mind..It seems to me that in alot places the game is being forgotten about do to the lack of advertising for the game..The only pool hall we did have within close proximity was an old run down building with 6 run down tables..Places like that IMO wont make it in todays society..No one wants to hang out in places like that these days..We have a Fast eddies about an hour from me and its one of the nicest pool halls ive ever been too..They have about 30 tables in there and every one of them is either a Diamond or brunswick and well kept up with...They serve food/drinks, play music, hold league and they do very well because its a nice place with a nice atmosphere..I think if more places like this were avaialble in areas that lack them and given more exposure the game/sport would be in a better state...Hell if I had the money I would do all I could to open up my own place or at the very least give the game/sport as much exposure as I could..
