Hello Guys,
Someone got a really beautiful Tim Scruggs Cue. :)
Anyone who loves Tim Scruggs Cues, must love this.
The Teal veneers are really pretty.
Especially in the Decorative Joint Rings.
Highlights the Cue very well.

The Teal Veneer Stack I used is .093" thick.
They are inlayed to the depth of .080".
Because the final wall thickness of the Crown body is thin,
splicing it would not be Practical.

Inlaying in the normal X Y axis would not be the method of choice, as,
the "Slots" would be too deep and going off the circumference ( edge).

"A axis" substitution would not work either.
Unless you contour the base/edge of the Veneer strips,
to compensate for the curvature of the bottom of the veneer slots.

I do, what I call, ( for the lack of the proper terminology) a "Double Offset".
I offset the A axis, then, off set the Y Axis. :)

There's no Text Book of making Joint Protectors.
I had to think up and do so many different things, to come up with the designs I make.
Many things I did on my Cue Caps was never done before.
Unreal yea.. :p
" Only from the Mind of Alton"... :)

Thanks WM...
Thanks for viewing...
Alton :)

Unlocking the Szamboti Chain

Thanks for posting guys.. :)
Just added:

Nick, This Teal Tim Scruggs had the standard 5/16" x 14 Thread.
I use the standard 5/16" x 14 Threaded Brass Insert.
<><><><><>

I was making Gus Szamboti Chains..
One of the most recognized Chains in the cue collector world.
If your cue has the Szamboti Chain, it is most likely to be in the $$$$.

Although I make a couple before. I never got it down right.
For me, it was idiosyncratic ..
Of all the things I do.. :sorry:

Trying to make one without any samples (Like a Szamboti Chain Cue laying around here to look at  ).
Look at this test Cap.
The Chain is still not correct, even thought I finally got the indexing close.
There is something still not right..

In the old days, they would make the starting slotted Billet using the Linen Fiber as the Billet.
Now days, because we do not use real Ivory, we can use Arviron as the base Billet and slot it with Ebony.
Cuemakers know, machining Linen Fiber Phenolic is the shits.
But, in using the white as the billet, the white dashes ( Links) will shorten up as the diameter of the slotted billet gets smaller.
So much to contend with.

Warning: Do not become a JP Maker.. Go to school... Not the pool room. :)
