Beer curve

I watched a friend of mine spot a guy based on what he was going to drink. He was going to drink 8 shots of Tequila and play him for $20 a pop. Unfortunately, they didn't put the shots in a shot glass they put it in an 8 oz glass. He thought if he guzzled it down he could drill this guy before it hit him. This was the funniest match ever. My friend was literally bouncing off the walls. He lost his shirt and we ended up having to carry him home.

2's about as much as a go, just to socialize a little and bring the nerves down and open up my confidence a little as far as my match goes.

On of my big downfalls I think...is I think TO much, if I just shoot (not carelessly obviously), I do much better.

Ok, I had a friend we called two-to-four because thats when he played his best pool. I always told him if he's serious about winning he had to learn to not use it as a crutch. He agreed but he enjoyed drinking and playing for fun as well. I don't have a problem with it, but I always hear, "Thats not fair you aren't even drinking." I just smile and say, "Nobody twisted your arm."

The reason why these drinkers play well in this range is easy to figure out. The game of pool relies two different thought processes in the brain. The conscious and the unconscious. The conscious lays out the "Blue print" of what we should do with the reasoning behind a decision. The unconscious simply fills out that order. The problem is with most people is that after the conscious makes a decision it just doesn't shut up!
"Oh, what if I shoot the five instead with draw?"
"If I miss this shot..."
"What is that... a thong!"

It needs to stop after the planning phase and let the unconscious controls take over to execute the shot. It simply does not do that for some people.

Also the fact that the emotions may build up in this same person. They know that they will start winding up tighter than a rubber band.

Enter the first drink. It has a calming effect and also reduces the tension. The guy starts playing a little loose. (That damn big mouth conscious still won't shut up though!)

Enter the second drink. Thats more like it! The big mouth conscious is now whispering and the unconscious is free! "That's right! I'm free-wheeling now baby!"

Enter the third drink The conscious is behind me now and my unconscious is tearing it up! Damn forgot to chalk my cue! That miscue cost me but I'm up big! "Hey!? Up the bet?!"

Enter fourth drink "Did you see that? Damn somethings wrong with this equipment! I've never seen a ball do that before!" Concentration and coordination start their decline as the unconscious starts receiving the effects.

Enter fifth drink "You're just getting lucky bud! That was a Ray Charles runout if I ever seen one. Did you hear me? Hey! Hey Bud!" Emotions start becoming altered and it momentarily cancels out the concentration and coordination decline.

Enter sixth drink "$hit I can't make a ball!"

Of course there are people that can simply play period when intoxicated. I am not one of those people. I loved Guinness, Wine, and Tequila Margurita's. I loved the taste and still miss it. Stopped drinking in 1991. All about the same time my pool game started taking off. ;)

I agree with what you said IF you drink all 6 in an hour or less. But with the right pacing you can ease yourself into that #2-3 level and maintain it with just the right pace.

Beer

6-12 is good. After 12 I still make shots just don't make as good of decisions. Like not playing a safe when I should. I guess I think I can make anything after 12, of course I think I can dance after 12 too...dead wrong on both.

I should have inserted this in my post at one point.
A little sarcastic.

Some people can drink at a moderate pace as my friend did to play well in an extended period of time. You are correct SDE!

Also you could double my drink amounts for other people as well!

Everyone has their own pace and it takes yeeeaars of practice to get it down pat.

Mine is 2 Buds per hour (if I''m not driving home later). Never any shots or mixed drinks which are to unpredictable. I've had bartenders who SOMETIME will pour heavy and there goes my game.

Renard has a good point. I don't usually drink when at the poolhall, but I go hit the barbox a little too often and I never hold back on drinks then because the opposition is less challenging.

That being said, I think (because I have a little bit of an alcohol problem), I'm going to start drinking at the poolhall instead. That will keep me out of the bars and drinking less.

If I am playing in a pool hall, no drinking. If I am playing in a bar, it's a free for all then depending on my mood. I only drink bourbon or whiskey and usually 1 to lighten up but if feeling good after that, I will have a few more. I have been known to walk in barbox league tourny's with a liptons ice tea bottle half full of Jack. Nobody knows the difference ;)

If ya drink ya know what I mean.

Maybe "drink curve" works better for some.

Do you have one?Have faith it it?Rely on it?

For those who don't drink imagine a line graph moving up in a with some steadiness.....hitting a flat spot...and then falling off in a large way.

I know many here take this game very seriously and save the drinks for later...but its there...
And Some days I love it...some days I hate it.

Dang, I thought you were talkin about the curve in you mid-section when you drink a lot of beer. In this case I got no clue.
