BEF Jr Nationals trip

hang-the-9

Just got back today form Vegas with my son after a one day delay in Houston due to a late flight out of Vegas.

Alex finished 13-16th, had lots of fun there! He also learned how costly it is to miss 9 balls and leave easy shots on them. He was up 2-1, missed a 9. Was up 3-2, missed a 9. Left a dead combo on the 9 while trying to play safe, and got an unlucky roll, lost 7-4 in the winners side 3rd round when he should have won 7-3. Wore is AZBilliards patch proudly :)

He got to win a game vs SVB, played in the center table in the hall where he won every single game they played against the girl that came in 3rd in the 18 and under girls field.

As a note, one of the girls, Michele, from my home room in Ayer that plays in the same Jr League as Alex, almost knocked out April Larson (who was the 14 and under winner from last year) from the tournament, she was up 4-3 in a race to 5, and only lost due to inexperience after missing an 8 ball and then a 9 ball on her hill game. This was her first year playing also, so I am sure she has some good finishes ahead of her!

There was some guy that won the8 ball title hanging out with the kids giving some lessons, he spent a few hours each with two of the girls there working with them, thanks Shane!

Got to meet Justin and thanked him for putting out the TAR stuff, as well as Mark of CSI and several pros. Met Mike Massey and beat him in an 8 ball challenge, although I have to say he would have had me but left himself over a ball on the last 2 before the 8 and missed the shot trying to spin for shape for the next shot.

Mike Dechaine and Jennifer Baretta were doing challenge games with the kids for a while in the practice room on the 3 9 footers there.

This is the kids from MA that went, my son is 5th from the right, the girl that almost beat April is 3rd from right.

Alex in a game vs Mike with his custom Ed Bishop cue. Like being back in Snookers, was nice to see Mike there for a bit although he drove there and was heading out that same day.

Great shot of the practice room where the kids would spend a lot of time having fun. One of the things I have seen was an attempt to pocket a ball into a plastic cup over the carpet from across the room.

Alex playing in the main hall while waiting for Shane to show up for some Q/A with the kids. He was playing with Sierra, who I think came in 3rd in the 18 and under girls and got several hours worth of lessons from Shane while he was there.

Sounds like an all-around great trip! Congrats to your son, and thanks for posting pics. Bearing down on those 9-balls I think comes with experience.

Great report and pics! I'm sure it was a great experience for both of you. And kudos to the pros that spent time with the kids.
