Hello my name is Dean and i am a American living abroad. I have lived in Thailand for the past seven years. I have been a carom billiard player most of my adult life.

Since moving to Thailand I purchased an 8 foot carom billiard table. Although a normal match billiard table is ten foot I really enjoy playing on the 8 foot table.

In Thailand the main game is Snooker. I have been avoiding playing snooker until just recently. I started playing snooker and just potting straight in shots using my carom cue. I realized I needed help in my fundamentals. I have been watching videos by a gentleman named Barry Stark. His videos have helped a lot.

The carom cue I have been using is just over 55 inches in length, has a conical taper, and ends with a 11mm tip.
I now am thinking of purchasing a 3/4 snooker cue manufactured here in Thailand. Snooker is a wonderful game and there are plenty of clubs here in Thailand.

Welcome to the forum @Dean_H
Indeed snooker is a great game and carom (especially three cushion) is a great foundation, you'll have your opponents tied in knots with safety play. Barry Stark has great tutorials of the basics. I also like break_from_life and some others. But snooker is like anything else, you've got to put in the practice to get better at it. So as Barry would say: "good luck with your practice!"

Maximus, Ton Praram and Master Cue are all highly reputable Thai cue makers. If you're on a budget, Maximus' Immortal line or a machine-spliced Master Cue would definitely be my recommendations.

I'm an English pool player myself, but I also dabble in snooker and am a keen watcher, and have a deep interest with cues used in both cue sports. I know next to nothing about American pool cues.

If you have more questions regarding the sport, I'm sure the lads on TSF would be of good help.

Could you recommend any other sources or channels for beginners?
Barton snooker and Micheal Holt perhaps.
Holty also does coaching over the phone. Set up your phone so he can watch the screen and he'll give you feedback and exercises.
