Not that anyone on here knows me from a hole in the ground, for all anyone knows I could be Shane with another account (I'm not). I do know a lot of local people who know a lot of people on here. Anyway here goes...
I've been in touch with Shane quite a bit over the last two weeks, and as ironic as it may be, Mr. Hoppe (Troy) himself is the one who directed me towards Shane in my search for a table.
I want to tell you all how nice of a guy Shane is, from my impressions thus far in our dealings. I've been searching for a table. I'm brand new, and very eager to expand my playing dramatically. Unfortunately, I have no money for an expensive table.
Once I got in touch with Shane, I was so excited to get a table from him until I realized he was 600 miles away. The price he offered the table at was great, but there's no way it's financially feasible for me to get a truck/trailer and drive 1200 miles. Not to mention the time.
Upon hearing this, SHANE's immediate suggestion was that he get a truck and trailer together and drive the tables down to within ~2 hours of me if I could handle meeting him there. He's not going there for any other reason or business, just to shorten my drive.
Now that's is a great offer in and of itself. But that's gotta be worth at least a few hundred extra bucks for him to drive ~9-10 hours not to mention loading the table on his own and all the gas money.
Nope.
Shane offered to load the table on his truck/trailer, drive 900 miles, take a whole day of his time and few hundred bucks in gas. FOR NO MONEY AT ALL. In the end, I honestly think Shane is going to lose a good amount of money on these tables, but all he wants to do is offer me more stuff. Cue racks, house cues, triangles, blankets for putting the table in my truck, etc.
We've had many phone calls, IM's, I've seen lots of pictures, etc. All this while he's been dealing with some extremely difficult and emotional times with his family.
I (and you all probably do too) have immediate family members that wouldn't bend over backwards like this for me. Shane is a complete stranger to me, I've never met him before Mr. Hoppe recommended I contact him on a table, yet I trust him like a friend.
Oh, and he's doing all this and driving down here without wanting a deposit first.
I'd say I've easily done +$20k in transactions through forums and ebay building race cars in the past, and Shane is the most accomodating and generous seller I've ever dealt with.
I can't make any comments at all on this transaction as I know nothing about it, but I thought I'd offer a glimpse of another transaction going on in Shane's life right now.
To quote my boss, I think he's just "jamming 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag" right now and got a little overwhelmed.
Best of luck to you Troy.
