Where do you even begin?! So many topics to discuss regarding the Pro Caliber event.

The Carom Room and the Promoters of the event are first class all the way!! Love the place and appreciate what they are doing for our sport/game. Thank You very much for doing what you do!!!!!

The streaming was incredible!! Had some pool friends over for a night of cards and pool on the big screen, PERFECT!! Watched every match on Sunday and it was some type of pool heaven I was in!! The commentary could use some work for sure. If only in the fact that when Scott and I believe Chris were on, Scott disagreed with EVERYTHING that Chris said and in the same tone a wife would, hard to listen to. So I muted it out..............please be cognizant that there IS an audience listening.

The play?!?!?! Are you kidding me?! WOW! The level of play is absolutely amazing!! Certainly shows how FAR we simpletons are from ever reaching that level! I think Sky broke and ran 20+ racks out of his final 30 against SVB. I always say the bar box is the great equalizer and it is, but not at that level. Sky, Corey, or SVB against me??? 15-3 maybe 4 if I get lucky!!!! We all have a loooooooooooooooong way to go pool friends!

Playing on bar boxes UGH!!! I know, I know, this is where the money is, I get it!! But come on, this level of play needs to be on a big table with tight pockets!! Maybe even a ten footer. We just need to find sponsors and venues that can support the need. And for all the "small table a lot of traffic" arguments people have regarding the bar box .................well guess what, every match I saw the balls were wide open, except for a few racks. Why? Because they break that good and that accurate. So, they are good enough to break with NO traffic afterwards and no clusters!! You and me??? Nothin but traffic and congestion on a box.

The pattern racking needs to stop. Corey was amazing the way he did it and it is well within the rules, but again these players are too good to not have parameters on how they rack the balls!

There needs to be a dress code PLEASE!!!! No shorts, no jeans, and for heaven sake, tuck your shirts in. We as amateurs have them at our events, the pro caliber players should too!! If nothing else look like you care!

As for the forfeit...well it is a shame for the player he over slept, a shame for the tournament, a shame for the fans, and a shame for the people who had purchased him in the Calcutta. But the biggest shame of all, is that there will be NO consequence for this. Without a Governing Body overseeing Pro players and events there will continue to be issues like this.

This sport/game is so ready for someone or some group to mold it into the proper package for the masses to see!! Then they can see how beautiful this sport/game is and how complex and difficult it is to achieve success. At that time our Elite players will benefit, which would be their greatest pay day.

Actually, there was a consequence to the forfeit. He lost his chance at winning thousands more.

... The pattern racking needs to stop. ... it is well within the rules ...
No, it's not, depending on which rules they use. By WSR it is unsportsmanlike conduct and subject to disqualification.

Neil: I was thinking a more long term consequence than short term. The betterment of the WHOLE not the individual.

Bob: I did not know about this rule, Thanks!!! I guess then it just needs to stop!!

If losing thousands isn't enough incentive, what makes anyone think that banning him from the next event will give him any more incentive? Can't fine him, pool players in general don't make enough as it is. What would you propose?

If there were rules set in place for a forfeit, there would also be rules in place for organizing tournaments to play their matches at reasonable times. He didn't miss his match because he was out at the bar... he was playing his match until 1am.

Mike,
Thanks for posting your perspective on The Carom Room event. I watched some of it this weekend and wished I had more time to watch.

Are you talking about Scott Frost disagreeing with everything Chris had to say?

JoeyA[/QUOTE] Yes I believe it was Scott Frost.

I think everyone would all agree with that... but who is "we", and where do you think "we" will find the sponsors?
I guess "we" is everyone in the pool community. Where "we" will find them??? I have no idea........maybe the sponsors come once there is a buzz or something they can make money on? I am not educated in the hows and whys of marketing or packaging a sport/game.

If there were rules set in place for a forfeit, there would also be rules in place for organizing tournaments to play their matches at reasonable times. He didn't miss his match because he was out at the bar... he was playing his match until 1am.
Cleary, here is the thing....I agree with you!!!! However, since there is NO pro tour or Governing body, the Pro Caliber players are playing more or less in amateur venues with organizers who typically run amateur events (ABSOLUTELY NO DISRESPECT TO ANYONE HERE). So the schedule was put together (I am assuming) because the promoters have careers and businesses to run. And they did a GREAT job!! As amateur players, we deal with this ALL the time at events, playing until 2:00 a.m. only to be back there at 9:00 a.m. the next day for a match. So until there is a Governing body, player representation to discuss these issues with ONE entity putting on events, well "it is what it is" as they say. And by the way, I never said he was out drinking at the bar, I understand he was probably exhausted and played late into the night before. The start time was 10:00, he missed it.

If losing thousands isn't enough incentive, what makes anyone think that banning him from the next event will give him any more incentive? Can't fine him, pool players in general don't make enough as it is. What would you propose?
I never suggested banning anyone, in fact I never suggested what the consequence should be......This is not for me to decide. And the old "pool players don't make enough money" is very old. Then pick a different profession, or even better, show up for your match and try to earn the money you need. My proposal is, raise the level of professionalism so this sport/game can be recognized for what it is. Unfortunately I can't do it, my game isn't ready for "prime time", but the players who's game is, they can make the statement................the trick is, it is not their play that will get the attention of the masses or the sponsors, it is the way they conduct themselves, the way they dress, and the way people react to them.

Beloit was great and I can't wait for next year!

It was unfortunate that Darren overslept, I could only make it on Sunday and was really hoping to see him play.

Shane Sky and Corey put on a show though with so many impressive runs!

It was incredibly annoying that they announced names on the loudspeaker every time someone's food was ready! In the high tension area around the pro matches where everyone is talking in whispers, to hear the music interrupted and names blared over the speaker was cringe-worthy... And I could see the players wince every now and then when it happened.

Other than that it was an excellent day. Not only the tournament matches, but watching Dennis Orcullo play Justing Bergman 10 ball for a little cash on the 9 ft.
