Beloit, WI - The Carom Room - $1000 Added - Oct 9th - "Open" 9-Ball

Nice job changing your tourney to an OPEN to steal players from my event this weekend and self-bumping your thread every hour. Good Job!

Take a deep breath and relax P.P. All is good. You're both gonna have good turnouts. Plus Dave's schedule has been together for quite some time. Nothing nefarious took place here. Just some bad timing. I'll probably see you this weekend.

Well from what I read/heard, I was under the impression that the Carom Room was only holding a 'No Masters' tourney this weekend instead of an Open.

In that event the Ladies would be paying instead of getting in free. Therefore, I wouldn't have had some of the women from Chicago calling me up to cancel.

I'm not saying there's an issue as my tourney is going to be full either way, but I have had a few entries cancelled to go to this event.

Jeff's right buddy, this schedule has been the way it is since back inlate july early august... If you think they just changed it within the last couple days or so, do some research on here and I'm sure you'll find the schedule is the way it is and has been for quite some time....

Ok, well that's no problem then. In that case it's just an honest mistake on my part and I give my sincere apology.

I originally picked this date back in February to do my first 10 ball event as it is the weekend of 10/10/10

I don't think I began running the flyers or promoting the event until late July or early August myself. No worries as long as we're all in this to help grow the sport and not butt heads.

I also have the remainder of the RCBT schedule online for the rest of the following year @ www.RiverCityBilliardTour.com just so everyone knows this ahead of time.

Thank you very much for helping to clear this up!

Miss a few hours here on the forums and you miss alot

No changes have been made to our schedule since originally posted at the end of May 2010. Our purpose in posting the information was asking about potential conflicts. Dave works hard on planning the schedule and getting the information out as soon as possible so that changes can be made if needed.

More & more tounaments are popping up! I just think it is great to see pool begin to flourish and that players have choices.

Who likes calcuttas??? That's where the real gamblers like to play. Check out the field and see if you can pick a winner!!!

Looking forward to a great tourney this weekend. Less than 2 days away. Perfect traveling weather for those who need to drive a ways ;)

Only one short work day away

Time for a little 9-ball action. Everyone is welcome & ladies play for free.

This time tomorrow the calcutta will be going ;)

Hope to see you all there tomorrow in Beloit @ the Carom Room. I'll try and give a couple updates in the evening for those who couldn't make the tourney.

This is an open 9-ball tournament that features a race to 9, no handicaps, double elimination, big calcutta and $35 entry fee. Open means anyone can play. Ladies play free in all open events.

Ok, Duane, I feel obligated to say something here. I quoted your original post because it says "anyone" can play. I just got off the phone with Todd Jones. I was dissappointed to hear that you won't be allowing his son to play in the tournaments there at your room. It really seemed that his son was well behaved from the time they arrived until the time they left. I think his son was a thrill for a lot of the people there watching him take a grown man to the hill!
His son has trained with Gene Albrecht and has been involved in tournament play at Rudy's in Aurora, Main Street Billiards in Algonquin, Hammerheads in West Dundee, Chris' and the Chicago Billiard Cafe in Chicago, The Pyramid Club in Addison, and the Rockford Billiard Cafe as well. He's participated in these tournaments for the last year that I personally know of without incident.
I understand that his age has made him ineligible from play in your room past 7pm. I'm really not trying to stir the pot too much here, but the kid is VERY well behaved and just wants to play pool. Your tournaments provide ample opportunity for a young up and comer like him.
I do understand that some of the tournament-playing parents last weekend posed somewhat of an issue with having their young, unsupervised, children there. However, Mr. Jones doesn't drink alcohol and I don't think his 8 yr old could fool even the most drain bamaged bar tender for being of age :) I really hope you reconsider your decision to not let the little guy play. It means a lot to his father and even more to him. And you've got to admit, the kid is a crowd favorite no matter who he's playing Dave. All I'm saying is, there are exceptions to EVERY rule and I believe this should be one of them. Put yourself in the kids shoes.
Sorry to ramble on, just doing my part trying to help out a friend.
Thanks, see you all tomorrow.

Just to clarify for everybody I know its not Duane's room but he does represent it online and is part of their tournament committee. I think I started the message to Duane but really was talking to Dave in my head. Guys, please understand I'm the guy in the middle and just trying to help a friend. Not really trying to stir the pot as I've been known to do every once in a great while :)

I tend to agree with you but as you pointed out it is not my room. Dave & his dad make the rules. The Carom Room has been around for 35+ years under their direction. Experience has taught them well so I respect their decison on this matter.

"Anyone" does refer to playing ability. I'll work on clarifying that point if you think it is necessary ;)

I understand Duane. Thanks for listening.

What a great day weather-wise  Surprised to see anyone indoors today.

50 players and $781 added today. Add in $3500+ for the calcutta and the total payout is over $5400.

First round was going by 1pm so we should be able to finish in one day!

You wont be so lucky with the no-masters tourney bud ;) You will be there the whole weekend for that one! lol! Good luck to you my friend, I hope you play well!
