hey everyone,

Just wanted to say a BIG "thank you" to everyone that helped make yesterday's benefit such a huge success. We had players come from all over, to support our good friend Tony with there donations and well wishes. It was nice to see some folks that we haven't seen for a while, and it reminds us all that life is short, and we should enjoy the time we, as like minded pool nuts, get to spend together.

With 71 paid entries, we had to shorten the races in order to get it all done in a timely manner. The whole event went smoothly thanks to good attitudes and plenty of patience and understanding.

In total, between $7500 and $8000 was(has been) raised to help Tony, with nearly 7k raised yesterday alone.

Special thanks to the following folks for helping me directly. Without there help we couldn't have done it...

Ann Malone aka ScarletTrout (for taking care of (putting up with)Tony :D )
Charlie Smitth (Papa Red) for managing the Brackets perfectly!
Nancy Smith for preparing all the food
Robbie Smith, he and Charlie kept he matches running smoothly
Bill Wagner for helping spread the word /obtaining items/ general pack mule :D
Doug Winnett (bullshooter69) for not beating me
Kennen Keffer (Captain K) Good Guy and great tip man
Mike Embry and Linda Lujan for running the Break Contest
Tammy Helms for helping with the raffles and silent auction
Trinity Baptist Church (Tables and sound system)
Doug and Heather Walls Owners of Luke's Sports Bar

EVERYONE that donated money or items! Without you, we couldn't have done it. We had a great bunch of people turn out. I'm reluctant to start thanking people by name for the items and cash donations(some were large), for the fear of forgetting someone. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE and WE APPRECIATE YOUR GENEROSITY. I know I speak for Tony and Ann when I say thanks, it's great to see the way pool players can come together and take care of each other.

Regards,
John Plumlee

John,

I'm glad to hear that the benefit went so well. I wish I could have been there for something like this. These are the best type of events where everyone pitches in to help someone else. To me, this thread is a lot more important than some other bantering type "threads" on here.

Please keep us posted on how Tony is doing. One day I'll surprise you and show up down there. I've been known to do stuff like that.

Jay and I must be posting at the same time... great minds think alike.

I just posted a thread TRYING to thank people, again I must point out all of John's hard work.

We love you John!!

Jay, Tony is doing great, although he has chemo number 2 tomorrow and he's not looking forward to that. Love to have you come to Texas and play some, we'll be looking for you!

Great Support

All in all everything turned out great! For our first time of trying to pull off a benefit for someone, everything went smoothly thanks too everyone involved. I hope we never have too have another one, because it would mean that someone would be ill. But thing like this goes too show that we have a lot of caring and good people in the billiard world. I may not live long enough too see it, but hopefully one day the game will get the recognition it honestly deserves.
