TO HELP EBONY KELLY OFFSET MEDICAL EXPENSES FOR A DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT.

Shes? Got Game!!! Shes? Got Game!!!
Ebony Kelly, originally from Minneapolis, moved to Arizona to attend ASU. She majored in Recreational Management /
Travel & Tourism. After her graduation, she stayed here to work for a few years. Then she worked out of state for about 9
yearsand was offered a position with American Express; she transferred back to Phoenix 4 years ago. Ebony started playing
darts in her spare time, but always seemed drawn to the pool table. She has since played in almost every pool room throughout
the Valley. Most of you have seen or heard her, by her constant coughing.

This has plagued her for the last 3 years, during which time she has undergone many many test and several trips to the emergency
room for muscle soreness and cracked ribs. Most of these trips were during the year she lived with me. The Mayo
Clinic has finally diagnosed Ebony with an Auto-Immune Disorder in which her immune system has turned against her body,
and specifically her muscles and lungs. It is called polymyositus, the cause is unknown and not contagious. Drug therapy is
not going to be enough for her due to her poor lung functions. She is currently being worked up for a dual lung transplant.

This active 30 something woman who once coached and played basketball and tennis, is now a pool player who also enjoys
music, books, movies and because of her travel profession she has been able to travel quite a bit. Ebony now lives with her
beau Steve Henderson and soon her mother, sister and aunt will be here to help with her recooperation, hopefully Steve and
Ebony will bring the family around to visit us. For the past 5 months Ebony has been on a leave of absence from work, and
while she has medical insurance it will not cover the entire cost of the lung transplant and recovery procedures. She has been
on the transplant waiting list for a while and hopes to be ready for surgery this year.

To help alleviate some of her impending debt, Kittys will be hosting a 2 day benefit featuring tournament, raffles and a car
wash.

Our prayers and best wishes go out to you...We love you Ebony. Kitty

I can't make it that weekend. I will be running a tournament at Hollywood Billiards. I would like to send an entry for both events though. Can I just send it to Kitty's? Who should I address it to?

You can just send it to the bar in the name of "Ebony Kelly". She would really appreciate the support!

Ebony's Story

Ebony Kelly, a resident of Tempe, AZ, needs your help. She needs a lung transplant as well as the help and prayers of family, friends and the community. She first learned that she had polymyositis about four years ago, just before relocating back to Arizona from Minneapolis. Over the years, this disease has affected her lungs causing a progressive deterioration in her overall health, including shortness of breath, chronic coughing and digestive disorders. Her condition has steadily worsened over the past six months and physicians have determined that this condition has caused life threatening damage to her lungs and her only remaining medical option is double lung transplantation.

In January, Ebony was approved by her insurance company to undergo transplant evaluation at The University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. She is currently undergoing a comprehensive battery of tests as a part of this evaluation. In the meantime, she continues to face each day with a sense of humor and optimism that is motivational to all.

Because of the extraordinary expense of transplantation, fund raising is thus essential to the overall success of Ebony's struggle.

Even with medical insurance, there are numerous uncovered expenses such as healthcare deductibles, co-payments travel and relocation housing. This presents a challenge that the Kelly family cannot meet alone.

To help offset Ebony's uncovered expenses such as copayments and prescriptions, family and friends have started a fundraising campaign through the National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF). NTAF is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for over twenty years. All contributions are administered by NTAF exclusively for uninsured transplant-related expenses. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

Make checks payable to: NTAF Southwest Lung Transplant Fund
Note in memo section: In Honor of Ebony Kelly
Send to: National Transplant Assistance Fund

Radnor, PA 19087

To make a credit card donation, please call NTAF at 800-642-8399 or visit www.transplantfund.org.

It's never easy to ask for help and now is certainly no exception. Ebony has touched the lives of many and we deeply appreciate the support she has received. At times like this, the assistance of family, friends and the community is crucial to help ensure a positive outcome. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated.

On behalf of the Kelly/Curry family, thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Sincerely,

Endea Curry

Here is a clip from one of Ebony's good friends:

"Hello friends and family!!

Most of you know (some of you don't), that we are having a benefit, for my good friend Ebony Kelly on Memorial Day Weekend. She is battling a disease called Polymyositis. This disease has affected her lungs causing a progressive deterioration in her overall health, including shortness of breath, chronic coughing and digestive disorders. Her condition has steadily worsened over the past six months and physicians have determined that this condition has caused life threatening damage to her lungs and her only remaining medical option is a double lung transplant.

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a Charity Pool Tournament, Car Wash and Raffle and I am asking your help in any of the following ways;

Ebony is a great person. I really hope things work out for her. If/when my job pays me, I'll be doing what I can to help out.

From Ebony:

Good morning all, just a quick update on the benefit this past weekend.... First, I'm doing good...sooo tired, but it's a good tired. This weekend was incredible!! Man, I was truly blessed beyond belief!! So after the raffles sales, car wash and donations.....we raised over $6500!!!! AND my old roommate JP who works for Sara Lee and donated all of the food and a gang of the prizes (GOOD PRIZES!!) with a few other comapnies and his boys football teams (they did fund raisers)...... he raised $10,000 for me!!! WOW! Thank you so much for all of your time and help with this!!
(Glo ran the raffle drawings..along with Raja and Big L), Kitty hosted the spot, Jack ran the tournament and car wash, Ty, Eugene, Glo and Steve helped sell raffle tickets and a TON of other people helped make this all happen!! I can't even begin to tell you how much of a weight this takes off of me. I can (pun intended) breathe soo much easier! Now I can focus my attention on getting on the transplant list! So June 16th is the date!! This is when I will go down to Tucson for 2 days of tests and based on the results, I will then be put on the transplant list!!! Keep me in your prayers! I know It will all work out! I still have a ton of places to go yet...... Costa Rica, London, Milan, Kenya Cuba..etc and a WHOLE lot more pool to learn!!!
Again thank you so much for all your prayers, help, donations and good thoughts, it truly means a lot!! I even had a friend from Denver (who I haven't seen in 10 years) and another from Minneapolis, fly in and surprise me at the benefit! I've also gotten calls from several relatives that I don't get to talk to often. So if this is what it takes to bring me and my family and friends together...so be it!! I love you all and will be in touch soon! THANK YOU!!!!
