I'm just clarifying one thing:

In a previous post for a Schrager Titlist conversion for sale on eBay, it was mentioned that Bert had sold his equipment. He has not...but he wants to sell the business.

It's true that Bert has been ill and is looking to sell his business: The total package includes all his equipment as well as his tutelage. He will teach the new owner all he knows about the art of cue making, which is considerable. Here's a once in a life time opportunity for the "right" person to learn from a legend, as well as own all of Schrager's equipment to continue Bert's legacy...and begin your own as a master cue maker. He may be willing to just sell the equipment as a lot for the right price, but I'm not sure of that, I know he would rather sell "the business" in full.

If you are interested in learning more, please give Bert a call directly at (760) 379-4753.

Good luck, Dave

WOW!!!!!! Someone will get the offer of a life time.

Hope Bert is ok.

I agree & thanks for the good wishes. Just got off the phone with him, he's hanging in there but he's used to going 90 miles/hour and he just can't anymore. Thank g-d for on-line poker, it keeps him busy. He turned 81 in August.

Sorry about the health issues. I've spoken to Bert on several occasions in the past and he is a great guy. If I were anywhere near California I'd jump on the chance to apprentice. With 4 kids and many bills, it just can't happen. I'd like to know if he doesn't find someone to buy the business, I'd try to get up the money to buy the equipment. Keep me in mind for later unless he just wants to sell everything now.

Thanks for the post, although I'd be really sad to see a Master retire without the benefit of passing on his immense knowledge of cuemaking.

Will keep him and his wife in our prayers.

Thank You

Dear cuenut,

Nice note & I will be sure to pass your wishes on to Pat & Bert. I'm sure they will appreciate them.

Just to clarify, I am not brokering this sale for Bert, only posting it for him. Please keep Bert's phone # handy (listed in my 1st post) and please feel free to call him directly. He'll be happy to hear from you and you can negotiate with him directly. In fact, it might be a good idea to do this sooner to get in a queue of those that would only be interested in his equipment.

Bert thanks you for your interest.

I wish Bert the best. I remember him as a stand up guy. In the early 80's I bought a sneaky pete from him that was a freak of a player. Unfortunately, I went broke somewhere back then and offed it. Visited his shop in North Hollywood a few times in early 80's. Back then, he hired a guy who used to work at the pool room I hung out in in San Diego (College) to apprentice with him, Marty.

I just referred a cuemaker who is looking to acquire more equipment to Bert, so thanks for posting the info.

God bless ya Bert. Hope you hit a jackpot or two.

Martin

Hey RC no problem, I just like to clarify facts if I can. Bert told me the history of your cues during our talk. He'll enjoy hearing from you. Hope your sale went well.

I could have started Jazz cue ... but someone took the name already!!!

And I don't even get any commission :D

Wow, thats too bad, I had Bert and Pat build me a cue about 3 years ago. It was all snakewood with an Ivory joint and tulipwood inlays. I am sure he remembers building it. He was going through eye surgery and health issues during construction. Took way longer to get the cue, but was worth the wait. He is truly a master craftsman and will be missed. He has had such and impact on the industry of cuemaking, training many and freely giving knowledge to those who ask. An asset to the pool / billiard world.

thanks Bert and Pat for your art!

Thanks a bunch. This might really work out. I have to fly to Bakersfield, then travel to Ventura from the 27th through Dec. 2 for work. I will be sharing a rental car with one of my coworkers, but will probably be able to convince him to take a short road trip. I'll call Bert to work out the details if it can be arranged. I'd hate to lose this opportunity, even if I can't do anything but meet him and Pat. I've only had phone conversations with him. Face to face would be great.

Good luck to you. I really hope it works out. Pat & Bert are like family to me and I always wish them the best - I know you will enjoy meeting & spending some time with them. You will be hard pressed to find two more hospitable people in the world. (I've been hearing some of the same stories from Bert for almost 30 years and I never get tired of them :) )

FYI they now live about an hour east of Bakersfield in Lake Isabella.

Its been many years since I last spoke with him. He had actually just put his "Jaws" cue on his brochure. Come to think of it, its probably been over 10 years. Time sure does fly! Thanks for the note about Lake Isabella! I will find out the specifics when I call him.

Thanks for all your help. I'm sure it is appreciated on your end as well.

if i were into cuemaking, this is a golden opportunity. i would do it even for the lessons alone! bring a camcorder, tell bert to build a cue and explain everything. omg,,,how many weeks of tape would THAT be! maybe stroud too if he follows through with his retirement.

i think pedigree is SO important.

Great idea! I've been after Pat to help him record his experiences and secrets to making a legendary cue but I don't think it would happen. If you have anyone in mind that could record something like this, maybe you should give them a call.

If I am not mistaken, Jerry McWorter and Tim Padgett were both students of his that turned in to very talented cuemakers.

thanks.

I believe you're right about this. I'm sure there are many more. I even did some inlays for him in the late 70s before going back to school.

Sorry Martin, I missed your post. First, I still do have one of Bert's sneakys and it is a "freak" of a player as you mentioned. Hope I don't go broke :D. Secondly, thanks for the referral for Bert's shop and your good wishes for his health - I'm sure he greatly appreciates both. I will see that he gets your post.
