I would appreciate any advice on the best value in an 8-footer for under $5000. I want a drop-pocket table, and it can be perfectly "plain"--it will be for playing, not ornamentation. I'm thinking maybe Olhausen. Thanks.

Your in luck... Check out the 8' Sahara Olhausen made without the reveals in the apron or legs. Very nice table. I think you can build in on the build your own table program via their website www.olhausenbilliards.com

Also take a look at www.diamondbilliardproducts.com and look at the Diamond tables. If you want playability, these tables are tough to beat.

Good luck, Should be a bunch of fun!

There's only two differences between the Diamond 9ft Professional and a Diamond 8ft Professional. Price and playing surface size. You can get the Pro 8 footer with Pro Cut pockets or Billiards cut pockets and Dymondwood rails. The playing surface is 46 x 92 inches. You can also get the new Diamond ProAm with a 1" one piece slate with a playing surface of 45 x 90, with the same leveling system as the 9ft ProAm. If you have the room to install it, you can be up and ready to play in about 15 minutes after delivery. Years down the road, it'll also have the highest resale value of any pool table of the same size that there is, just in-case you ever decided to replace your table with a 9 footer for what ever reason.

45x90? Who engineered that playing surface??? :)
Greg Sullivan, he figured that if the 7ft was 40 x 80 and the 9ft was 50 x 100....then that must mean that the 8ft should be 45 x 90...right?..lol

Glen...I don't work for them...I just give them my support, as well as anyone else that needs it.

Makes perfect sense to me... I didnt know that Diamond 7' tables were 40x80. I thought they were the typical 39 x 78. I know now! Thanks

Look at American Heirloom Products. www.AHpooltables.com They are built with all hardwood right here in the U.S of A. There is no metal brackets or insert nuts. You can get Artemis rubber as an upgrade. I would recommend doing that. I do about 20 new installs a year for them and love'em. They are priced right too because you buy direct. I do like Olhausen tables. Vitalie is a nice furniture table also.

Isn't this the guy from one of the southern states that got a spot on the "Made in America" show? His wife carved the legs etc. Never seen one of his tables.

I have been called by a couple of these shows (not Made in America) - they will feature me for a fee of $5,000+. Would love to do it but a one guy shop doesn't make that kind of cheese. I would imagine most of the cuemakers have been approached with the same thing along with the table makers.

it will be half that price..i have a 9 ft.Olhausen and love it.

I have an 8" Olhausen and absolutely love the play. The accu-fast cushions are fantastic, bank really true and the table is very well constructed. Of course, as PoolSchool mentioned, you cannot go wrong with a Diamond either.
I paid around 4K for my Olhausen new but a really nice model with higher grade woods etc.. You can get one that plays just as well for much less than I paid.

Good luck, JBK

For around 3K you can get the solid wood Olhausen Santa Ana, a somewhat "plain" but nice-looking table. And you can customize on their website with different legs, aprons, finishes, even different wood for the rails if you want...a few of which are "upgrades". I also like the Cavalier rails standard on the "upper" end of the Olhausens which are a bit wider. I'm not an expert but researched tables for a few months. I looked at Brunswick, American Heirloom, AMF, but it seems that compared to all the other tables, the Accu-Fast cushion alone tips the scale to Olhausen. I've heard that even Olhausen's lower-end veneers and laminate tables play really well due to the fact that they also use the Accu-Fast cushions (as well as quality slate).

A Diamond Pro would be nice, but with no local dealer and no way to look at one locally, I didn't consider it seriously.

IMHO, if you've got 5k to spend and you spend it on an Olhausen, you'll get one heck of a table, not easily topped by any table out there.

BTW, my Olhausen Montrachet order goes in Monday!

Rod,

I guarantee that you'll love your Olhausen. My version is the Monterey Mission, "I think that is the name of the model".. It has the wide rails and is very nice looking too.. The accu-fast cushions are wonderful.

Enjoy, JBK
