I know there have been countless threads like this one, but I haven't seen a poll yet. To avoid arguments, please don't even reply to this thread, just vote. I'd really like to see which player everyone on this site thinks is the best 9-ball player of recent times. I'm not going to mention any of the old-time players who might have still played in the last quarter century, because it's hard to compare them to the modern players. This is also not dependant on how many titles someone has achieved. Just pick who YOU think is the best.

Just noticed your avatar ... and why hasn't he been impeached yet?

Back to pool. I think you could make a good case for any of the first 5, plus Archer.

This poll seems to be going as close as the Color of Money match did. With the same winner probably. He got my vote anyway.

Becuase he is not the best and I think most would agree with that. He is certainly one of the best. That goes without saying. He is a phenomenal talent. But the best??? Not stacked up against Efren or Earl.

Earl Strickland. When you look at his accomplishments he has won the US Open I think 5 times, the WPC 3 times, countless other titles. IMO which is just that no one other than Efren can compare to Earl.

Well, there are 9 players listed, not counting Richard Simmons.
And these days, Busta could probably give Earl the 8.

BTW- I voted for Archer. He may be a one-trick pony, but damn if he doesn't play a hell of a game of 9 ball.

Earl has won 6 WPC's. When it comes to 9ball Strickland is clearly the winner. As far as best all around player ya gotta go with Efren.... but Sigel & Varner are real close

Allison Allison Alison -- She plays a mean game of 9 ball and I dont care how good you are m or f I think you should bring your best game cause you never know... but BEST in the past 25 years , I hate to say it but it cant be no matter how much you love her game. I would love to see her play a lot of these guys - just curious to see what would happen - I think it would prove to be some exciting games and there would be upsets - both ways I think, but nevertheless - entertaining and good pool.

I'm pretty surprised that so many people are voting for Efren Reyes. I love the guy. He's the greatest all-around player, possibly ever. But, 9-ball has always been his weakest game. Especially in the 80's and 90's when he had a tough time winning the events, coming in second a lot. He was "Mr. Second place" so many times in the 80's.

Sigel and Strickland are great choices. Strickland's longevity should give him extra points. And Johnny Archer was the 1990's Player of the Decade, when the game was primarily 9-ball.

Fred

In order:

1) Sigel
2) Strickland
3) Archer

Very, very close between Strickland and Sigel. Sorta 1 and 1A. I gave the very slight nod to Sigel for consistency. I also agree with the poster who noted that 9-ball is Efren's weakest game. IMHO his accomplishments at 9-ball do not stack up to those 3, even though his accomplishments are considerable. Honorable mention also to Buddy Hall, whose top game rivaled anyone's, but whose longevity doesn't stand up to the others.

Because he's never won a major tournament, no WPC, US Open, or BCA title. The players on the list have all won multiple majors (except for richard simmons lol!) and he's won zero. He's won alot of smaller tournaments but never been able to capture the "big one".

Yeah, but put him at the table in a long gambling set with Sigel or Strickland and my money is going on Bustamante.
