Yeah, but put him at the table in a long gambling set with Sigel or Strickland and my money is going on Bustamante.

My money would be on Bustamante as well, but keep in mind Strickland and Sigel are well past their prime. Also, I don't think the topic was referring strictly to money matches.

Strickland is 2 years older than Busta.
I'm fairly sure Sigel is roughly the same age as Efren.

Didn't Bustamante beat Johnny in a gambling match when Johnny was number one in the world?
I voted for Buddy Hall.

Earl as the best "tournament" 9 ball player.
Gamblng players...Efren, Parica, ..... Buddy Hall and Billy Johnson, but they are OLD!

Did you guys even read the first post in this thread??? Stop trying to sway each other's opinion's. Just vote for who you think is the best. Ignore any bickering please. Please don't post in this thread if you are going to talk about who is the best and why.

As far as Allison...in local open tournaments against the men I've seen her beat: Tony Watson, Stevie Moore, Tommy Kennedy, Sam Monday, Mike Gulyassy, Ron Parks. In one event I remember she beat Stevie 9-2, then beat TK twice to win the event. I bought her in the Auction for like only $200 after they had already taken 5 players ahead of her. I'm not saying she can make a living against the men...or she's the best player in 25 years (female...YES...sorry Jean) but on any given day...

Back in the day for the Cash......Buddy Hall beats em all............

My sources tell me that's not true...but my sources drink a lot. :D

I'm told there's one guy Buddy wouldn't play for money, Don McCoy. True or not?...you tell me as I'm not really sure.

I voted for Strickland and I think Buddy Hall is second. My favorite all around player would be Sigel. Strickland had won many major tournaments as well as the Akron tournament umpteen times and I talked to him years ago and congradulated him on his excellent playing. As we talked, Buddy Hall was passing and Earl told me that "there's the mayor". I will never forget that. Buddy plays the best patterns but Earl can get out and do so many things. Sorry for replying about the why's and wherefor's for voting but this is a very interesting thread.

I also recall reading many years ago in the Billiard News that Jim Rempe had won something like 33 9-ball tournaments in a row which I guess was many in PA. but what a feat that is also!

I voted for Buddy Hall for several reasons. I've watched a lot of pro players and whenever I watch Buddy play, I sit there starring like it's the first pool I've ever watched.

Watching him reminds me of the quote from "The Hustler"

Fast Eddie about Fats:

" He is great! Geez, that old Fat Man. Look at the way he moves, like a dancer...And those fingers, them chubby fingers. And that stroke, it's like he's uh, like he's playin' a violin or somethin'."

A local pro told me he saw Wade Crane beat Buddy straight up in their prime.
But, no mention in the book. :)

My wife and I are good friends with Buddy Hall. I have been playing for about 16 years and when I started playing I used to go to all the weekly tournaments down here in South Florida. I used to sit and watch Toby Sweet whenever he played a match. His cueball was unbelievable. That is how I learned what side of the balls to fall on. His cueball was the best I had ever seen. Than I started going to the Florida Pro Tour events and started watching Buddy play, this was in the mid nineties. His cueball was even a notch over Toby's and for those people out there that know how Toby used to play they know I am really giving Buddy a compliment. Over the years we have become good friends and he showed and told me quite a few things over the years while I was picking his brain. I will never forget this, now I never got to see Buddy when he was playing his best in his prime but about 4 years ago I was watching him play a match(watching him play puts me in stroke) at one of the Florida Tours and he beat a good player and he missed 1 ball and his cueball was real good the whole match but not up to his standards(all of us would love to play like he played that match) I will never forget this, after the match he sees me sitting there and walks over to me and sits down next to me and says " I can't play no more, but Rob there was a time when I was THE MAN" the hair on my arms stood straight up and I swear I got goose bumps by how he said it. I could tell that he was not just talking, he KNEW that was true. I wish I could have seen him play at his best, from what I have been told when all the champions were playing there best 9 ball Buddy was THE MAN!! By the way, just to put it in perspective. Another time I was at a Florida tour at Capones and John Ditoro, C.M. Lee, and a bunch of other players so I bought it up and Buddy was there and the majorirt of players said Buddy even though Buddy said that when Sigel was playing everybody knew Mike was the best player.

Me too. That's a ton of weight. Allison can string racks; I'm sure she can string some runs to the 5.

allison can't win with that spot. sure she might stick around for a few hours but i'm tellin ya she has no chance in the long-run. i just don't think a lot of people realize how much of a different game the men play than the women. i mean i've heard a lot of "oh she beat so and so in the tournament" and this and that, and it seems that a lot of people rely heavily on statistics like these when they don't mean crap... i mean i've played parica cheap short sets for a couple hours and come out ahead, but do you think i walked away saying to myself "hey brandon, you're just as good as that guy is"? hell no, it's a joke to compare my game to someone like parica, just because i came out a set ahead after two short hours of playing doesn't mean jack squat. so sure, if you bet on allison for the first couple, three hours or so, you might win a little money... good chance. but if you think you're going to "bet all day on allison with that," you'll be going home broke.
