What do you guys think is the best action room? Forget nice neighborhood, I'm talking about games going on, not just a few people betting high, but the regulars always matching up for $50 to $300 a set. It seems like every time I go to Chris' Billiards in Chicago there is always something going on. What do you think?

I've got 2 for you from my (pool) lifetime:

Bill & Billie's in Glen Burnie, MD. There is another by the same name now near Baltimore (Reisterstown), but I have not been there.

Also, (the now-gone) Champion Billiards in Westmont Shopping Center, Arlington, VA. 24-hours, no booze/ beer, no food, no shit. Action at all hours...Closed now...boo!

Oh, but I hear that 30yrs ago in the DC metro area, Action Central was Jack and Jill's in Bailey's Crossroads, VA. Weenie Beenie...need I say more?

Wherever the best action room is, it probably wants to remain a little-known secret.

But, having said that, I'll just bet it's in the South, beginning in Mobile all the way to New Orleans.

And as far as the BIGGEST action room, I hear there's a pool room near Canada that has an open challenge for ANYBODY to come and play a local guy who roars like a lion for 20 dimes, ANYTIME. It's an open invitation, and so far, there have been no takers.

You might make that Ft. Walton Beach to the Big Easy MS. But you are right.

The MOST action, with THE BEST players, is LEGENDS BILLIARDS in League City, TX. Jeremy Jones, Johnny Archer, Vivian Villareal, Denis and Barry Strickland, Cliff Joyner, Charlie " HillBilly " Bryant, Belinda Campos, Jimmy Vegas, Bobby Pickler, are ALL regulars there....always action, with the best enviornment!

You know something OPK? It always was in Texas. Maybe with the exception of the Greenway in Baton Rouge back in the 70s.

There has never been more action than there was at Red's in Houston. You can't name a player that didn't spend a lot of time in Houston. Blud can attest to that.

Can you find out where and who the player is? I have a player or two that might be interested in getting down.

Ted, there is an open invitation to ANYBODY to play the local guy who "roars like a lion." The pool room is located near Canada, the country where Alex the Lion resides.

I don't know about the rest of you but my experience is that action moves around depending on where the money is. When you have someone with a lot of cash wanting to play, that's where the action is. Sometimes the person with all the money moves around, and then the action follows, right?

When a place doesn't have new money coming into it, the place tends to get a little stale, don't you think? After a while, all the regulars know how to match up and there's no sense doing it after a while because the the money just goes back and forth and it never really leaves the room. I would think the best money rooms are those that are close to a freeway, easy access, and also close to big events that draw the money in. I'm thinking like a big convention center or something not necessarily related to pool.

This place in Texas called Legends might be an exception to what I just said. Perhaps it's the kind of place that is so well known that action comes to it on its own. That would be a sweet place to live next to!

Rickw you hit on the head. An action room needs a good stakehorse available. This assures that those guys on the road know that they can come into the room and the matchup can almost always be made -eventually. Also true about the various players having matched up so many times that the room does indeed go stale. Unfortunately, I have watched this happen here in So. Calif.

Lets see, nothing going on from Mobile to New Orleans? Lil Jon loses 20K Monday night in Mobile to Breamcat but no action?

I beg to differ.

You might want to look in at the Corner Pocket in Kenner, LA too. Jamie's got heart. Start at the bottom first though.
