Since there's a limit of ten poll options, this is only major cue producers. I know a lot of you have favorite custom shops, but perhaps that will be for another poll...

Vote for the company you think makes the best cues overall, in all price ranges.

Production cue: Joss

Custom cue: Paul Mottey and James White (based on pointwork, inlay work, creativity, wood selection, and most of all, playability)

I would say, Falcon and McDermott. They both make cues that have super quality and good playability.

I would have voted to Schon too but I saw the clause "at all price ranges"....I think mcdermott would be very hard to beat, the cues play very solid.

Is Schon just the king of production cues, or what? Now if I could only afford one!

Personallly, I don't think Schon is comparable to the others listed.

They're not a mass-producer. So, they would be in the same market as Pechauer and Schuler among others (but not too many others).

Yup, what Fred said!

From what I have heard is that Shon is basically a custom cue maker. But you don't get to specify what you want like you would with other custom makers.

My favorite is my Schon.

If the poll read "What is the best cue for the money". As in your factoring in the price. I would have to go with Lucasi.

IMO PLAYERS especially and Cutec and even Lucasi do not belong on a list with the other ones.
Please you must compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges!

I like the upper end McDermott but J. Pechauer is a lot
better than some you have listed. 25 years ago Meucci
would have easily been my pick but, alas, not now.

Yes, I know, some of these are hard to compare... Think of it as a pound-for-pound comparison, as in boxing. Like it states at the top of the poll, "best...in all price ranges".

I have to cast my vote for Viking & McDermott. I sell every brand on the poll list at Billiards & Sports in Medford, Ore. I love the variety of designs offered by Viking and I prefer their standard taper over the standard taper on most McDermotts. But I have played & owned both brands over the years and feel they are both an excellent value for the cue buyer. Joss cues are great, I just wish they would go back to some of their design styles of the early 80's. Pechauer & Schon are my favorite custom shops if your willing to spend in the mid upper range for a cue.

Among the import brands my favorite has to be Falcon. At least while they are still in Canada. But they are moving their factory operations to Taiwan with production starting there in September sometime. And I feel like what's going to come out of Taiwan is going to be less quality than the canadian made cue models. But we will just have to see...

If the shaft quality on Lucasi cues was better than it is now, I would be all over Lucasi as a retail seller. They have wonderful designs and the butt sections are nicely done. But we can still get Lucasi cues in the store that are sometimes warped in the shaft. Just like Players, Action, Cobra and others in the Chinese made imports.

Cuetec cues are a great deal for the money as long as you like the hit of graphite/fiberglass coated cues. They certainly represent the very best in quality production cues coming out of China for your dollar value in my opinion. And I tell customers that regularly.

Production cue- Viking wood to wood joint!
Custom cue- Bill Mcdaniel Custom Cues, more cue for you dollar! Next would be Paul Mottey, James White. In my opnion these are the 3 top custom cue makers breathing!

Best production cue

I have been repairing cues for the better part of 10 years and I mean repairing them. Fixing bent pins in the handle section and installing new handles, Bent joint pins ect. Doing this you see the down side to every make of cue. The best built and the straightest shafts and the ones that I find warped the least are Viking and Joss. Viking being #1. Butterflycues
