Best all around player ever?

Harold Worst

I vote for Harold Worst. 3 cushion world champion and couldn't be beat in pocket billiard games straight up.

How come toasty never gets any consideration? He has world titles in multiple disciplines and has had dominant years. Is it because you never hear about him gambling?

It's interesting people's view on that color of money match.

I personally believe the match proved two things (at least at that point in time)... earl was actually a better nine ball player than efren, but efren has a much better temperament and bigger heart in extreme situations.

And no dog!!

Because being a great "all around" player, at least here in the states, means that you can bank. As far as I know, no European has won a title in the games of banks or one pocket where banking ability/knowledge is critical.

But if we only concentrate on the main pool games that don't necessarily require high banking proficiency (8-ball, 9-ball, and straight pool...or what I consider the "European all around"), then the Europeans superstars such as Thorston, Ralf, and Darren are certainly at the top of that list.

But just like White Men Can't Jump, European Men Can't Bank.

Toasty doesnt play 1p at anywhere near the elite level.

To be fair, I think he hardly plays it. Most Europeans don't. However, I think he has lived in the states for a while now. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten into it- perhaps it is because he doesn't gamble and seems like mostly a gambling game.

Thorsten told me that he "hates 1-Pocket" and avoids playing it.
However, after Billy Incardona showed him a few tricks, he defeated SVB in a Make-It-Happen 1-Pocket match in 2014.
I told Thorsten that I think he has the mentality, shot-making ability, and cue-ball control to become a formidable 1-Pocket player.
Thorsten smiled and shook his head.
He lives and breathes 14.1.
