Who do you think is the best all around player in the world currently? My vote goes to Shannon Daulton. If you take all the points from each division and accumulate them for all of the Derby City Classic Tournaments he has the most points. He has won the 9-Ball Division 2 times. He is the leader in Legends of One Pocket wins. Not to mention the fact that he has also won the bank pool division at the Derby City as well.

Geez, and all these happened in the US. Makes me wonder if the ones who have accomplished similar feats in Europe, Taiwan, and the Philippines are also the greatest all around player in the "world". :D

Why don’t you edit your thread and include a poll? My bet is that Efren would be chosen by the knowledgeable as the best all around player in the world.

Yup, afraid they're right. As strong a player as Shannon is, if he and Efren gambled, Efren would rob him in One Pocket definitely, straight pool probably, and 9 ball? Well.. I've seen Efren play on my Accu Stats videos, and I've seen Shannon play on 'em. I think Efren would rob Shannon in that discipline too.

Where is Shannon Daulton? I haven't seen him in any tournament since the last Derby City Classic, almost a year ago.

As far as all-round best pool player in pocket billiards, I would have to vote for Efren.

best allaround player

littlle change in the question - whos the best betting THEIR OWN MONEY? ive seen efren play for money many times, never have seen him play on his own. have watched PARICA also play and gamble with his own, when he can. this is not a slam on Efrens ability to play, just a question on his playing for his OWN money. how about some names of players who DO play with their OWN money.{AND PLAY VERY GOOD} ps. - everybody knows that when you go broke you need help - my reference is to those that if they won the lottery, they would still ask for backing. {there are plenty of this kind around}-- signed, JMB

Efren is the best. No contest.

As for his ability/ success being dependant on whose money it is, poo.

Well my question is how come in nearly all the Accu-Stats matches where Shannon and Efren play, Shannon always beats him?????? I agree with the statement about playing on your own money. I feel Parica is the best gambler from the Phillipines. I know that Efren is great, but lets face it. He has nowhere near the amount of victories as a Mike Sigel or a Nick Varner. People are just speaking on opinions rather than hard facts. I just feel like that you need to have a few more career tournament victories before claiming to be the best all around player in the world.

Someone may want to add Thorsten Hohmann to this list. He has been playing awesome 9-Ball and is also a world class 14.1 player. Quite possibly the best all around player at this moment.

One fact you failed to mention is that Efren started competing in the US in 1985. If I'm not mistaken, he was already 30 years old. Already past his prime. Just imagine how many more tournaments he would have won if he started out in his teens.

Another thing is that if I was Efren, I won't gamble with my own money. Why ? Simply because of the fact that people will be lining up to be my stakehorse. When Efren was just a kid (bata), some of his rich Chinese schoolmates were already staking him for some money games.

E Reyes he is the man to beat..And the best all around play to walk the earth......Beat him is like hittin the lotto for 100 billion..And you know what your shot at that will be...

Steve Mizerak is in the Hall of Fame, and his bio on the Billiards Congress of America website goes like this:

STEVE MIZERAK, born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, was the youngest inductee to the BCA Hall of Fame. In the brief span of his career, he has been 4 times champion of the U.S. Open, winning the title in 1970, 1971, 1972, and 1973. Mizerak also captured the PPPA World Open title in 1982 and 1983. Mizerak continues to finish near the top in several national tournaments each year.

He won the U.S. Open four times (WOW!), but he is also well remembered by us old-timers for his speaking part in "The Color of Money" and those funny beer commercials. And it looks like he's still contributing to the sport by hosting the upcoming Seminole-sponsored seniors tournament.

The Miz was my all time favorite, but from the ones I've seen on tv, Efren has impressed me the most.

to piglit

you evidently know next to nothing about the difference between betting your own money, and feeling the pressure of losing your OWN money. no matter what any of these freebe players on this board say, its much easier to go home after losing someone elses money than YOUR own. try it sometime - dont reply back that you have so much concern for your backers than you do for yours. that a bunch of s---. - mike if this offends this board, im sorry. JMB ps. - why dont some of you use your OWN names when you post? not much courage.

to coolriffs

my thoughts to piglitt are the same as my ideas about you. also another NONAME jer- JMB
