My wife has started to take an interest in our sport. She is an absolute beginner, struggling with aiming medium cut shots, Rather than risk the divorce by trying to teach her technique, what training aids has anyone used and/or had any success with to help her get a consistent bridge, stroke and basic aiming?

The best "training aid" would be to find a good instructor to help with her fundamentals. You could do it yourself, but like you said, it probably won't end well... I've been there, done that.

Tell her too youtube zero x billiards watch and get some table time

We wish you the best enhancing your recreational play.

Welcome to a fantastic game and we wish you the best enhancing your recreational play.

PM us your name and address and we'll ship you a 'Ultimate Pool Secrets" DVD asap. You still have to practice, however, this DVD will show you everything you need to know to get properly started and quickly enjoy the "world's greatest game," pocket billiards. And remember, the game will soon be your teacher. www.cjwiley.com

I'd say, buy Dr Dave's DVD's.

If that doesn't work, buy her favorite bottle of wine, and practice the "reach around" shot.

Mark Wilson's "Play Great Pool" is a really good resource for beginners and advanced players. It's easy to understand and has great pics.

I would take CJ up on his offer & perhaps she would like Ewa Mataya's instructional series. It's on youtube.

I think it is important to get her to realize that you do not 'aim' the center of the ball at the contact point. Perhaps you could place a second cue ball in the ghost ball position as she looks at the shot from the actual cue ball line would help with that.

Also Ray Martin's The 99 Critical Shots in Pool is a pretty good book but I limit her to pages 25 to 51 & 55 to 85 at first & for a while.

I know a few couples that come to my home hall & they seem to have a lot of fun.

Good Luck & Best Wishes,
Rick
