I’ve had great success with Lenox razor blades, about $22 for 50. They stay sharp from trimming to shaping.
I cut mine on the lathe-, with my cutter, no razor or blade, this cutter cuts everything- if your equipment is calibrated and setup correctly there is no reason not to cut the tip on the lathe with your cross slide and cutter-------I use to do the razor, then a cue maker showed me

Lathe, currently using Utility Blades.
I always did this, to protect the ferrules after the glues hardened.
I'd use a new straight edge razor blade and hand trim in a downward motion.... the glue and the tip overhanging the ferrule.
I'd then spin it up.
If I'm doing house cues, I'm not that concerned, utility with a Good blade is fine.
