Best Break Cue

Guerra Cues

I build one cue at a time

Hello,
I have tried several break cues and the ones that I really liked are the SledgeHammer (old version before being sold to McDermott) and another custom made by Kevin from Gold Rush Cues in Sacramento.
I like to feel a bit of weight on the cue.
What else is out there? I've had a BK2 and a Stinger and did not like it too much.
What other break cues have worked for you?

He's not taking anymore orders, but I have good success with my Varney. He's also become a good friend. Please search the forum for the many reviews from others as well as the two I have written.

There were also many polls conducted, you may search for them.

Good luck in your search.

Yep.
I have been thinking between geeting a Josey or a Varney. I heard nothing but good things as well about the Josey j/b. I have a Carmeli j/b on order that shoud be awesome as well. Ariel does not make lots of j/b, about 8 per year. But I want another one, probably the Varney or the Josey. Any more sugestions are welcome.

J&J jump/break cues are the best break cue I have ever used hands down. Picked one up from an Az memeber dooziexx. I played with one last week and ordered one two days later, only 60 dollars you can't go wrong. Just my two cents.

I don't have much experience with many different break cues, but I have been using one that Tim Padgett made me years ago. It is pretty heavy at 21oz.

I have a high end Carmeli on order and Ariel is making me a matching j/b cue to go along with it. I also have really good things about his j/b's.

Can't wait......:)

I have had several I got a petree about a year ago and I like it better than anything that I have ever had. Jumps easy to.

I am using a Carolina Custom J/B and I like it a lot. They probably have a couple in stock. I have worked with Trevor on mine. Give him a call:

I'm using that new Poison VX. It's alright. I ordered it in 19.5oz but it still feels light in the shaft. Best break cue I've ever used was my friend's Gulyassey.

Dave Kikel used to make a real nice j/b. Could probably be talked into it again...
Although strangely enough, my favorite break cue ever, was an old Meucci after I took out the weight bold.

The best break cue is all just a matter of what suits you..

If your a fan of Phenolic, You can put a Phenolic tip on any cue and it will break good..

Personally I have always liked breaking with my playing cue..

As for breaking I just don't think any one cue breaks better than another.. It's just what suits you best.. If you get what I mean..

IMO BK2's were the best break sticks ever.

and I thought the bk2's sucked for breaking but they were great for long jump shots..

Just as I said.. All in what suits someone.. No one break cue is better than another..

My worthless opinion of course.. :)

Some look nice and some cost more..

For jumping accuracy and cue ball control breaking as hard as you want I still like my Varney.

We generally have several different brand cues in our booth, for players to try. They generally pick up the Predator BK, The Auerbach Cue or the Pechauer. All have sniper tips.

For a break cue, I am currently using a Jensen converted old house cue with some ring work and a lyptus wood shaft (very very stiff), ivory ferrule and Mike's Milk Dud tip. Works great for me!

I'll go ahead and say it......

My first ever dedicated break cue was a Cuetec J/B cue. After I got my Hunter Classic I started using my Joss with a shaft that Wes built for me with a phenolic tip. I killed the Joss during a tournament behind the joint. I modified my break so as not to stress the joint and later purchased a Bunjee Blaster J/B cue. This worked well.

I'm now using an X-Breaker J/B cue. I did get the standard shaft from Richard and also one of his IPT shafts with leather tip. Right now I'm pretty much using is standard shaft. Finally I picked up one of the X-Jumper jump cues on e-bay and experimented a little with using that ash shaft on my X-Breaker. It works pretty good as well. During league/tournaments I use the standard X-Breaker shaft.

Now the thing is if you have a cue with a 5/16x14 joint you can purchase the X-Breaker shafts occassionally on e-bay.

At the end of the day I believe any cue will work for you as long as you feel comfortable. I do feel though that should probably use a straighter taper shaft with any break stick over say a pro taper shaft. This is the only thing that would prevent me using a playing cue.

If I'm lazy though I will break with my current playing cue (a Sugartree) that has a Superpro tip. Since I modified my break and don't bend the shaft anymore I don't think I'll have anymore problems killing a cue. I might lose a tip but I won't kill any more cues.....;-)
