Anyone try Gorilla CA?

In another thread, Varney Cues described a method used by
Dennis Searing.

-light film of CA on tip and ferrule.
-let it dry
-this primes both surfaces (absorbs into both surfaces....esp. the tip)
-lightly scuff/score both surfaces
-then, glue up both surfaces
-produces a better bond

How long do you wait for glue to dry, before you trim off sides of tip?

later,
sax

You only need to wait a matter of seconds...a couple minutes to be ultra safe.

I use 5 minute epoxy when gluing to ivory. CA glues do not work well with ivory.

hmmm. i only use ivory but with a pad. 10+ years never lose a tip.

scuff and glue never prime

is your experiences with or without a pad?

It is not a matter of tips popping off or whether or not we use pads, but a matter of the CA making the ivory more brittle, thus prone to cracking. There is no scientific evidence to prove it but this is what our shop has noticed over the years. I am sure there are people that have used CA on ivory with no problems. That's ok. For me, I will only use epoxy.
