Best Gold Grown?

This may have been asked before, but I couldn't find it with a search.

I am going to get a Gold Crown and would like to know which is the best model. I've heard some say that the II and III are the best playing, but that the IV and V are easier to level the slate (if I remember correctly, and I can't guarantee that).

So whadda ya say? Which GC should I get?

I have worked on all of the GC tables, and (IMO) the 5 has the best frame, is the best looking, and plays the best of all the GC tables. I have just set-up a black 5 with extented rails at The Pool Room in Duluth,Ga. The Pockets are 4.1/8 corners and 4.1/2 sides. Everyone loves the table. Awesome one-pocket table.

Other than having to "fit" the pocket castings on the GC5, I would also agree with Mark as to the GC5 being the best of all the GC's ever produced:D....PROVIEDED you get someone to set it up that KNOWS what they're doing;)

PS. Now, how many do you want?:D:D Fatboy & Jay Helfert have some in Las Vegas not to far from you:D:D

Thanks gentlemen.

Las Vegas is about an eight-hour drive from me. I only want one table (I'm pretty sure the zoning laws won't allow me to open a pool hall in my house). Any idea what Jay and Fatboy want for the GCs?

I recall some folks have bashed the new Brunswicks for being made overseas and for having a lot of plastic. Is this true or did I misread the posts?

Do you know anything about the Brunswick Liberty table? I found an ad for a restored 1944 model (being a 1944 model myself, I was interested).

Anyone interested in a snooker table? I saw an ad for a nice looking 6x12 Anniversary for $2500. Very, very tempting.

The frame on the 5 is beyond a doubt the best, and as Glen said-outside of the castings, it's a better table once setup right.
A few modifications and the 5 outshines them all......

I played on Fatboy's GC5 a while back, after Glen set it up, and was finally impressed with a new table.

I'm sure you would be impressed with any table Glen set-up. My advice is to buy the GCV from Fatboy and let Glen set it up for you.
You've already played on the GCV Glen set-up at Fatboy's home.

I thought about it for a few days..if all were in like new condition not used up 40 yr old tables. They all have quirks in every model.

1. An original gc1 in excellant condition always sexy.

2. A GC2 before a GC3.

3. A GC3 before a GC4 hate the castings on a GC4.

4. The GC5 it just as sexy as a GC1

Its like either and early corvette or the newest one evrything else is just car or table unless you steal it for one hellava price.

Yss on the GC5 or a GC1 dolled up.

What is the problem with the GC4 pocket castings, and is it a big deal to fix them? Looking around, it seems that a GC4 can be bought for half the price of a GC5 (Jay, for example, is asking 2500 for a GC4 and 5000 for a GC5). Is there that much difference between a properly set up GC4 and GC5? And would a half-blind old fart know the difference?

What part of Cali are you in? I have a GC3 with fresh artemis cushions and tight pockets.

Donny,
I'm in Atascadero (loosely translated from Spanish, the name means "Butt Pucker" or "Angry Sphincter"). Not the heart of California (but not Fresno, either).

Did you do the setup on the GC? Tell me all about it (crap, I'm starting to sound like my shrink).

If you get a table from Donnie it will be top notch he has sent 3 or 4 tables up north for me to install and all have been top notch, no bs, no missing parts.. He even goes out of his way to get me parts when i'm in a bind and a supplier is out of stock it shipped things to me.

Donnie is first class and growing every year.

Donny,
I really would like to know the details about your GC. Some pics would be nice, too.

Craig,
I understand yuou're down south now (or soon). Maybe we can work something out to get the table up here and have you set it up.

(I hope this post comes out alright. All I have is peripheral vision right now, so I can't proofread anything.)

here's some pictures. I bought the table and tricked it out, and never set it up. It's actually due to be setup at my parents house was I ve completed my medical leave.

the table in good condition, but there are some dings, I photo'ed the worst of them, but together the table looks fine. The slates are leveled in their position, now, to prevent warp. As you can see only the best has been into this table. Pockets 4 3/8. I learned from the best. And this type of work isn't cheap. I personally won't be able to delivery for at least until August. It's not missing a screw, it even has the ball rack holder that mounts under the ball return. Personally I like driving through wine country, but like I siad it will be a few weeks. I'll PM you with a price later.

Photobucket wants a password to view those pics.

You have had a couple of Gold Crowns on here recently. Are we talking about one of those tables?

Same link. Requires a password.

Now that I can see better, I just noticed in your earlier post, it says "ball return". I hate ball returns.

Is this the table?
