Not really on a budget but not trying to spend to much. If a cue is worth the money, then so be it. What is your opinion? I was looking at maybe picking up a players cue its under $100 but with good reviews. Is there a different direction I should be looking. I guess I would consider myself a good player, 8 in APA (not that it matters :o). Never had a jump/break before so trying it on for size.

Thanks for any input!

For that price range you can do really well with a J&J by changing the tip to a white diamond.

Ideally I would do this to stay near that price range.

Buy a jump/break from J&J and put a samsara break tip on it for breaking

Get a cheap jump cue and then change the tip to a white diamond.

I have yet to find an acceptable break/jump combo. The goals of breaking and jumping are very different in my opinion.

Thanks for the opinion. I kind of agree but I really want to downsize my case so I am looking for a jump/break. Less crap to carry...

I have never like Players cues before but the other day i was at High pockets in Memphis and a buddy of mine had a newer Players J/B and it was fantastic. I have had just about everything you can think of from BK2's to Mace, SH's, Omens, Gilberts, original Jerico Stingers, etc etc etc. And for $70 it's hard to beat that Players cue i used the other day.

If you can find a used Mace, Stinger or BK, they all break fantastic

Really this is what I would do and I am probably going to actually do it too. Use my playing cue to break and play with, or just keep my cheap break cue I have now. Then buy a jump cue from Keith Hanssen. He makes awesome all around cues and love his jump cues I have shot with.

Have you considered a Mace J/B by Rick Howard? You may be able to get a good price on a used one. New they are a little over $300

Simple enough since you said you are downsizing.... Order a break cue from Gullyassy and have him make you a jump butt to fit the shaft.... You get to downsize and you still have the proper tools to do what you want....

A break jump is usually good at one or the other but never both and if it can do both there are always dedicated tools that do either better.... That made my head hurt just typing it........

And my eyes reading it!

For the money? I use a Gino Ferarri B/J.
Wood pin. You can get them on EBay for well under $100.
I found that I can jump the ball off the table as well with this one than any other that I have tried.

I use a Players JB-5 and I am very happy with it, however I only break with it and cant speak on the jump cue. I had a Jump cue before I had this cue and just prefer to use what I am comfortable with.

I just sold my orange crusher, I was not a fan. I do like the Anvil though.

i have had a players cue to break with for a few years. bought the cue for 20 spent about 45 for steve lomax to put a samsara tip on it and it does the job. if you are willing to spend more money on a jump break i would recomend steve lomax. i have one of steve's jump cues to jump with. for my money you can't beat that jump cue. after christmas i am going to have steve make me a break cue as well, with a phenolic ferrule and smasara tip.
i bought the players j/b to learn how to jump with as it was a cheap way in. i can say it breaks and jumps ok. especially for the price. but it does neither one as well as deicated jump and break cues will. if you are willing to sacrifice a little performance in both areas to save space the players will do fine. but in the end your better off geting a 2x4 case with a jump handle sleve in the large bottom pocket. then you can carry the break cue and one shaft, the jump shaft, playing cue and 2 shafts in the case and the jump hadle in the bottom pouch.

Action ACT-103, been breaking with one for years. Tried a few others, but I always come back to it.
