Hi everyone! Could I get some help with some opinions? I am thinking of buying a leather case but I don't know which brand would be best at an affordable price. I am looking to get maybe a 3x5 or 3x7 case, I heard that instroke has awesome cases, any other brands that are just as great at a cheaper price??

Do we though? Do we?

+1 prewarhero Not really. He has nothing positive to say about ANYTHING! Just dis-regard "dom_poppa" John Barton makes some nice cases at very competitive prices. Instroke too,I like the older ones made in Germany.

It's not a knock on JB. They are high end last time I checked.

Just like if someone said an affordable cue, you are not going to send them to South West or Hercek or send him to Justis.

Here is some good advice to the OP and it's no surprise I am giving it here, I would recommend JB rugged line. It may not be leather but it will protect you cues.

My advice is spend the money on a really good leather case (JB, Whitten, Justis, Fields, etc) or save money and get a JB Ultimate Rugged. For anything under $400 I think the Ultimate Rugged is the best option. Above that there are some killer custom leather offerings depending upon what you like.

John's rugged cases are some of the most affordable quality cases out there. I bought a 4x8 at Derby for $150. If that's not affordable, I don't know what would be!

Also, my cues don't take a beating when I'm packing my case around either. They stay snug as a bug in a rug!!

The J Flowers series are leather, and under 400 to boot.

I have a couple of Sterling leather, 3x5s. Pretty decent for the money. Tube interior so the cues do rattle a bit but have never had any damage.

If you want just a 2x4, I would suggest a GTF. I got one and not only do they hold the cues perfectly in place, its quite a classy little thing for the money.

The GTF is probably the most expensive case that I own, but well worth the money. One large and one small pocket.

Also have a 1x2 GTF. Same quality.

Best value in American Made is IMHO Dennis Swift. Dennie builds Cases that last forever.

Don't forget Jack Justis, as some put them on top of American made.

Honestly if you want protection, it is JB CASES, and best value in Protection is JB Rugged Case.

Now if OP changes his mind and willing to spend more, go with a Justis. He is here in America and makes a fantastic case.

Probably one of the most or the most influential dude in the industry for cases. Living legend.

Volturi comes to mind but it is expensive and the custom cases are going to look better than whatever cue housed.

Again, JB Case is good too. Can customize any case for you. Shipping is high because of it being overseas. They have a nutty owner but he is passionate about protecting cues.

Interesting first post.

Our leather cases start at $150 and have no upper limit. Most of our cases end up being around the $600-$800 range.

Affordable is up to each person's ability to pay. Value on the other hand is the product's ability to perform for the money. Although a case might be "cheaper" than another case it may not last as long, protect as well, or be as comfortable to use. So therefore the cheap one might end up being the most expensive one.

I feel that our cases provide the best value in the market. For daily use and protection I think our cases are the best choice. I am of course biased but I do have the experience of owning and dissecting just about every other case made to base my opinion on.

However there are a lot of other good makers out there. And a lot of crap. Ask around, inspect what you can and try to make as informed a decision as you can before investing in something you intend to get years of use out of. Especially if you don't have money to throw away.

Swift

Not trying at all to knock JB cases. I have never owned one but have come across several over the years and they have always seemed to be really nice strong cases. I just happen to really love my Dennis Swift case which is a 3x6 with some custom stuff about it and paid just about $430. I just ordered another one from him as a 2x4 and that one will be just under $400.

I have a JB Tough Love Series case...and it will easily outlive me. Whatever you desire, he can do, only your imagination and budget are the limit. He stands firmly behind what he sells, and should an issue ever arise, he will fix it or replace it. Doesn't get much stronger than that. As an everyday carry case, I couldn't be happier.

The oil-tanned leather is great, as any scuffs or minor scratches just rub right out. Can't recommend one highly enough. As you can see, interior colors can be picked from a variety offered...I went with the blue. The upper pocket on mine is designed to hold a piece of chalk at the ready, and store joint protectors while a cue is in use, without having to go digging for them in the pocket later. Substantial weight leather is used throughout, and the stitching is awesome. Best bang for the buck, IMHO.
