I've been looking at discussions here about break cues, and decided to pursue one of the J.Flowers break cues. I can't find any information on the BK2 vs the BRKR, but I guess that doesn't matter, as they weight 18.5 ounces and up. I prefer a lighter break cue.

Any recommendations? (other than buying a playing cue and modifying it).

Thanks in advance.

CueStix has these 15 oz break cues but they don't sell directly to the public.

Jacoby Feather Weight down to 15oz

I've got a BK2 that I use I've made quite a few 8 balls on the break or really got it moving , having a good stroke helps a bunch also .

I have a BK2 & like it a lot. I believe its butt is made w/ purpleheart & the BRKR's are made w/ maple, fwiw. I like the paint job on the BRKRs better.

Reading another thread, I ended up ordering a J.Flowers BRKR. It was between that and the Predator, so I saved a little $$$.

I played a guy tonight who used a Predator break cue - I don't remember which model. He was an APA 6 and was dry-breaking, but I'm sure it had nothing to do with the cue. I broke with my playing cue and made a ball on each of my breaks...but I'd prefer to make 2-3 :)

Go Customs makes a great lightweight break cue.

i'd keep looking, my bk is 18oz
The J.Flowers site says you can lighten it a little.

Go Customs makes a great lightweight break cue.

I'd prefer 17.5-18, and if I don't love this one, I will look at 'Go Customs'. The only break cues I've ever owned were a Tibbits custom, a super-heavy Cuetech and a Hightower. I liked the Hightower a lot, but sold it when I moved cross-country back in 2006. Wouldn't have sold the Tibbits but a member here begged me for it, and I succumbed :)

Mine is a 'Homemade' one so to speak. Found a Dufferin Dot for sale.
It was a 17 oz. Took it to a local guy that does cue work. He took the
Male joint off the shaft of the cue and proceeded to use an Oaken floor-
board from the Local Senior Center when they'd re finished it over a
decade ago and was original from 40 or 50 years prior to that. I say well
seasoned chunk of wood. Fitted the Male end to the shaft. It had been
already turned to the just waitin' to be finished stage. So, he fits it all
together smooths the joint, cuts and fits a Brown micarta ferrule and
installs a tip I had brought with me. It's in my signature. Still weights in
at ~17 oz.

I bought a Dufferin Sneaky Pete many years ago and had it turned down to 11.5mm and had a black ring added to the joint so it didn't look like a I piece housecue. It's a light cue at 17 oz and I can break or play with it. I like light cues and my snooker cue is 16 oz and my pool cue is the heaviest one at 18 oz.

Exactly what I was going to say, just take the weight bolts out of a bk rush.

I cant stand the way it breaks with them out, but if that's you're thing it'll do the trick
Just contacted a friend who used to be on my team - I loved his break cue and it was a BK Rush. It wasn't a heavy cue so I assume he removed a weight bolt.

In any case, the JFlowers is in the mail, so it's going to get tested before I consider dishing out big bucks for the Predator.

a house cue virtually scratch resistant
45 years ago when I played pool in Texas bars, I had marks cut into the cue I played with and broke with. It always sucked when you realized someone else was standing against a wall holding your cue, drinking a Lone Star and not even playing pool.

Funny - I still remember the marks in the bottom of the cue I used to play with in the Dixie Chicken in College Station back in the late 1970s.

J.Flowers BRKR arrived yesterday. After a few practice breaks I was having really good success with it - pocketed at least a ball and spread the rack, on all three breaks in my match last night. Won 4-3 so I would say it was a big contributor. What I liked most about it was that I could do my 8-ball break with no issues - from right side, low left English, direct hit on second ball. Smashed the sh*t out of it easily.
