what is the main difference between OB-1 and OB-Classic?

The OB-1 is more non-traditional when it comes to its appearance. It's got the laminated maple ferrule, whereas the Classic has a traditional white ferrule. I've also heard and read that the OB-1 deflects a little less than the Classic, but I can't back that up because I've never shot with the Classic. For what it's worth, it's my understanding that it's a very small difference in deflection between the two.

Another big difference I've heard is that the Classic has a stiffer, more solid hit. Again, not 100% sure on that, this is just what I've heard/read.

Sorry yes, got used to typing Z2 lately.

Actually I think a Z2 FAT is a great idea! This would give Predator customers four shafts to chose from at various tip diameters, 11.75mm to 13.20mm. I think 12.30mm would be great for the Z2 FAT, with a taper that's just slightly more pro then the current Z2, like a parabolic taper. Either the Predator or Poison FaceBook page did ask customers what they would like to see in regards to new products, maybe I should make a suggestion.

so, the Classic one is more solid hit than the OB-1, and, they have different appearance on ferrules.

I voted for the OB-1 because it's the only one from the OB line that I've played with. I've had mine for almost three years now and there's no turning back. I wouldn't mind trying other OB shafts, but I have no reason to buy one, since I'm completely satisfied already.

Have you ever played with 314 2nd, how does it compare to OB-1?

yes, you should!

i like the pro sizes better for my game, but either classic shaft is AMAZING. Easily the best shaft I've ever hit with, don't think I'll go to anything else. I highly recommend the classic to anyone who may not have previously liked the OB-2 or OB-1 because of a softer hit or a non-traditional ferrule. The classic shaft takes care of both of these problems and it is truly great... I haven't heard one person who hit with it that didn't say they they love it.

great point!

I played with the OB2 for a solid month and was very satisfied with it until I went to Vegas for the BCA and got to hit with the Classic at the OB booth. I loved the hit of the Classic, a little harder hit than that of the OB2. I now have one on order. I can't wait to get it and have it fitted to my Schrager.

good for you!

Performance.........

I've tried most of the OB shafts and like them all but I am no so used to using the stiff taper and smaller diameter tip of the OB-2 that I kind of feel like some of the other posters; I just don't see the need to change because it is performing quite well for me.

If they come out with a shaft that performs better (FOR ME) than the OB-2, I will be trying it out for sure.

You know, it's nice to see an American company competing in the production cue business.

And for the record, when I first used the OB shaft, I wasn't real happy with the striped ferrule but now I don't even see it. The only thing I see is that I perform better with my OB shaft and performance is the ONLY thing that matters to me.

I see more and more OB Cues and OB cue shafts popping up in my area of the country so I know they are on the right path.

It's just a matter of time before the masses migrate to OB cues.

I recently started selling OB cues and shafts and I have often thought about agressively marketing their products but I hate to drag a customer to see the best equipment and force them to see that it is a better product. :D :D

If anyone is interested in an OB cue/shaft, they can contact me via PM.

Thanks,
JoeyA

I like the regular OB-1 shaft the best. When the OB-1 classic shafts came out I tried one and I was so used to the feel of the original OB-1, which I liked, I sold the classic and stuck with my original OB-1. I also play with predator 314-2 shafts, but I use my OB-1 sometime also. They predator and OB-1 are both great shafts IMO.

they share very similiar characters.

It's a fine shaft and I did like it. A couple of months later I tried the Tiger x-pro shaft and was able to compare the two. I wound up staying with the Tiger shaft, It was more to my liking. I think for me the biggest difference was that the OB is a bit heavier toward the tip. The Tiger gives me the feel of a conventional shaft but with the hit that the modern shafts offer. The OB is fine but at the end it boils down to personal preferences. You might consider putting your name on the list that Tate has on a demo program with the Tiger shafts. I would suggest that you try both the Ob and Tiger then choose.

and Tiger shaft is also cheaper for about $20.

I've used the OB-2 for about 2 years now and I love it. But this question of " Best " is another of those subjective matters that has no clear answer. The only way to find out wich is "best for you" is to try them all and make your own decision.....

Classic hands Down!

I was a Big Predator Fan for years and took some big events playing with one,so Predator is still real good in my books.I tryed an OB1 shaft a couple times and knew the shaft was not right for my game.I actually felt uncomfortable playing with it.Well a OB Classic was one of the shafts that was built for my Varney cue when I bought it and what a huge difference.I've played with every LD shaft out there and the Classic is a deadly shaft. Now I've heard some people say it deflects a little more than the 314-2 but I feel with the test shots that I set up to see deflection, there was really no difference but the classic felt 10 times more solid and for just for potting balls, straight draw and little spin shots I believe the Classic is a stiffer shaft than a Predator with better feel.Any shot I missed which weren't many, usually I undercut the ball which tells me the shaft is hitting stiffer and isn't buckling. What I found in the past is if I tested any shaft and overcut alot of shots I knew the shaft was to whippy if I undercut I knew it played stiffer than I was used to and liked it more. Now the tip is a huge part I believe that can make a shaft feel weak or more solid.I personally love Morri's but Kevin put on compressed triangles for the original owner of the cue and the shaft hits incredible with this type of tip.Again a shaft can feel different depending to the butt it's on.Kevin made this cue using some awesome birdseye maple and a purpleheart handle with a 3x8x10 brass pin.The Classic to me is the best LD shaft on the market, hands down.GoodLuck
