Hi I’m a fairly new cue collector and I only want to buy cues from the best cue makers that will increase in value over time. Is this a subjective list or are their many obvious choices?

Well you've already miss the boat on most of the name cue makers but what you got to do is discover a few of your own. There's a lot of guys out there building cues that never make it beyond their local market that are really nice.

There are lots of good cue makers. Some of the best cues were made by guys who have passed away. The market in some of those is still strong. I been doing this for 37 years, have a pretty good collection.

Don’t fall for the “cue dealer” thing. Anyone who buys and sells cues is a cue dealer. It’s a level playing field. Buy smart, sell smart. You won’t get rich from this. But it can be lots of fun

Good luck

Buying cues to see them increase in value is a ridiculous proposition. Some do, but that market will fall sometime and it will fall hard.
Depends on how long you hold them. And how good you buy them.

Sure I’ve lost $ on cues before. But overall I’m WAY ahead of the game. But had I put the same $ into any stock market play-I’d be doing better.

It’s not a profitable endeavor

Except for Balabushka's and Szamboti, I never made any money on a cue. I made money as a cue dealer buying wholesale, but pretty much never buying and selling in fact you usually lose money.

It's almost impossible to buy a cue at a fair market Price and make any money on it as a result of appreciation. If someone made money on a cue it's because they got a steal when they bought it in the first place.

Look for makers with long wait list or better yet guys not taking new orders. These currently are the cues with highest demand therefore best chance of holding or increasing in value. Basic economics.

Buying from new makers that are not established can be the best way to make big profits long term if their cues develop a following. It is a gamble as some makers cues may decrease in value.

The good thing is a cue will never go to zero. It will always have value. Good luck and have fun.

I've tried many butts to play with my Revo which is what I like-- tried many production & many custom butts and I am going to say here (Not based on looks) that the best butt I've ever played with is the Mike Gullyassy butt.

For some reason that I don't know, his Butt has some type of dampening system that when I strike the cueball with it, hard or soft it doesn't matter it is always really smooth on my grip hand...... I feel that Mike has gotten it down to the vibration level of engineering, I am 100% sure he included some type of dampening calculation to make it such that you feel that the cue is a part of your body.

Good job Mike Gullyassy.

Is it a PHX butt or one of his non-PHX older models?
