Best pool halls in the country (with the best tournaments & most action year around)?

I am curious if you guys could list (in your opinion) the best pool halls in the country, that hold the most tournaments, and where you would see the most action (year around).

Also, these are pool halls would that have the least amount of risk of running out of business (in your opinion).

Also curious about pool halls that you are most likely to see known pro level players visit the most throughout an entire year (not only for tournaments, but for action matches).

Also, these would be pool halls that are the least likely to ever run out of business, so they would be very popular with the general public, and have the most interested people that are very interested in pool (that are serious about the game).

Thanks for your opinions about the greatest pool halls in the US (I forgot to mention that I am asking about US pool rooms).

I understand that it may sound silly, but I would love to relocate to an area where one of these great pool halls are located (because I would love to live somewhere where I can see a lot of great players, and where pool is the most popular among serious players, and not just the average league players that just play a few nights a week), and that is why I am interested to know.

I am very curious about where the very hot action spots are for pool these days (and very likely to remain at in many future years).

Does anybody really think that in 2016 anything else comes close to the pro presence there throughout the year?

Steinway Classic ... Ginky Memorial ...World 14.1 Tournament ... challenge matches (Orcollo vs Ko 2 weeks ago ...... Efren, Earl, Shane in the past) ... WEEKLY pro tourneys by Tony Robles/Predator ... NYC 8-Ball Championship .... streaming of all by Upstate Al

Manny's relentless ambition to encourage big matches, pros in residence (Jayson Shaw, Warren Kiamco in the past) and a busy/profitable operation.

The good DR is correct. Previously, that torch had been carried by Amsterdam billiards club. Before that, the undisputed best NYC room had been Chelsea Billiards. Today, Steinway is easily the most active room in the country.

Teachers Billiards St. Peters MO (St Louis area)

We host our own Inhouse Diamond 8Ball League.
We have 3 tmnts weekly....Tue, Thu, Fri.
We have 2 weekend monthly tournaments. Open, B, Ladies, One Pocket, 9Ball, 8Ball
We host the Missouri State Bar Box 8Ball, 9Ball, 10Ball
This weekend is the Gateway City Big Table 10Ball Classic. $2000 entry fee. Names like Bergman, Woodward, Archer, Morris, Orcollo, Gomez, Hatch, Kiamco

Since June we've done the following:

1) Hosted the Young Guns v Old School event. (Bergman/Woodward v Archer/Morris)
2) Hosted a match between Bergman and Orcollo
3) Hosted a USA v Philippines (Bergman/Woodward v Orcollo/Gomez)
4) Hosted a match between Allison Fisher and local great Andy Quinn.
5) Hosted a Challenge Match between Bergman and Jayson Shaw

Justin Bergman is our house pro and is in house a couple days per week. Dennis Orcollo and Roberto Gomez have been in house several times to just practice with Bergman.

I imagine the table rates are pretty high in those classy pool rooms.
 
If you call around, you'll find the rates at Steinway or Amsterdam comparable to other pool halls in NYC. Now, if you're trying to compare their table rates with your area, then it's not unlike arguing over the pricing of a studio condo off of Central Park West with a 5 bedroom in Arizona for 1/5 the price.

For those who play league, I think Amsterdam's in-house leagues are a downright bargain. For me, it's cheaper to play Amsterdam's in-house leagues than APA double jeopardy.

I can't give enough credit to Manny and his lovely wife Anna for their hard work to make Steinway a prestige stop and world wide reputation. I agree with you and Doctor Fedak about Steinway. I disagree about Amsterdam, so don't take them out of the fight yet.

I like to share an anecdote. I recently took a friend out to Steinway recently. He is an Amsterdam regular, so I wanted to show there was life outside of Amsterdam. :-) To make him feel comfortable, I pointed out people I knew from Masters. He then corrected me and stated he knew many of them from the Golden Cue days. *chagrin*

Hard Times in Bellflower for the west coast. California Billiards is quickly re-gaining its popularity amongst the players since its re-opening. Also " The Garage " in Seattle in the 90s was a great spot for action, maybe still is I haven't been there in years. I cant speak for the rest of the regions simply because I have no first hand knowledge but I'm sure there are some great spots out there.
