Best practices for watching streaming pool on a TV

I'm making some improvements to my pool room, including installing a flat screen TV on the wall. My plan for watching pool streams is to first install an Apple TV, then start the pool stream on my Mac laptop, and finally share the stream to the Apple TV via the AirPlay feature. This works with recent Macs using the Mountain Lion OS, or you can buy the AirParrot application.

How do you watch streaming pool on your big screen?

I just use a desktop PC with an Ethernet connection and connect via HDMI cable to the TV, and optical audio to the amplifier.

If I'm feeling chatty (and I usually am), I'll use my laptop on the coffee table for the live stream chat rooms.

Be careful if you haven't done it yet because only recent (i.e., in the last few years) machines will stream via Airplay.

Well since you asked.

My only G5 is connected to the TV (60") full time with wireless board and mouse so I can browse even watch YouTube vids (posted pool matches, you know what i'm talking about) on it when I have it to myself. Little mama (6.5 yr old) can use it to play her Nick Jr games on so she has a big screen also.

When I'm at my HQ a.k.a my desk my Tim Allen Mac Mini (dual SSD Raid 0, 16 G of 1600 DD3) is hooked up to three monitors, 25" main screen, 22" off to my right (kind of right shoulderish) for monitoring downloads and such "torrents baby, torrent" and a 20" wide screen standing in portrait mode on the side of the main monitor for stream chat "although I don't take part much" and other things forum and such related that just look better in portrait.

I also use Roku for UStream. In addition you can use Twonky for YouTube videos.

The Roku also has a very nice app for their remote - no more lost remotes and one less device cluttering the sofa

Good point. Specifically you need the Mountain Lion OS and a 2011 or later Mac. The specific models are at: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5404
Or you can use AirParrot, which will work with older OS's and Macs.

It's nice that Roku has Ustream built in; Apple TV does not. However the Samsung TV I'm looking at does have a Ustream app built in.

Yeah, i could hard wire my computer to the TV, but I'm going "Commando" my man. No wires anywhere. Complete unfetterment :@)

streaming with roku box

I'm thinking about purchasing a ROKU box and i wanted to know if I will be able to stream the Tar matches with this box. I have been told that the box would not stream things that were PPV unless has an app for that event or channel. I'm not to good when it comes to these things so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

There isn't a way that I'm aware of to use a Roku box for TAR or other PPV stuff. You can't even use if for YouTube. (There was a way to do that, a couple years ago, but that loophole was closed.) Anyone using a Roku box needs to google Roku Private Channels to find stuff that doesn't come native with it, btw. Thats where the YouTube channel used to be, sigh.

To do TAR or other PPV, I'm pretty sure you will need a computer or tablet in the mix at some point.

I currently have a ASUS eeebox running Ubuntu hooked to my 70" LED TV. That is how I watched the bonus ball stream on Friday.

There is a Vimeo channel on Roku but I haven't tried to see if PPV channels are available. Twonky channel will allow you to view Youtube videos
