Anyone have good ring game stories?

Had an interesting one last night.
Stopped by local room after a tourney had started, lasts all night so I rarely play.

There is a 5 way ring game going, everyone is around my speed, but they are playing $10 on the nine only.

Watched a little while and jumped in, figured I'd donate $50 or more, but what the hey.

First 4 racks.....

I come to table on the 1 or 2, run out.
Break and make one, billiard 1 to 9.
9 on the snap.
Break dry, makes it back to me, still on the 1, another billiard.

Weeeeeee....made 2 cecils, game only ran less than 2 hours.

There were at least two other members here in the game, I'll wait for the crying

If you consider 3 ball a ring game.

Scored $1000 in less than 4 hours, playing a 3 ball game that started as 10 people playing for quarters. Progressed to 8 handed for $5, then 3 handed for $50.

Back in about 1990 or so, was up in Milwaukee playing the Eastern division of what was called the US Team Open under the old NPBA.

Got in a ring game of 8 people, did all the flipping for position, etc. Rocketman (never knew his real name) led off while I was 2nd.

We were playing 10 ball barbox (I don't think 10 ball was invented with actual rules yet, it was just a harder version of 9 ball since all were monsters). $20 on the 10 ball.

Well, Rocketman proceeds to run 8 racks straight right off the top. I'm a young kid, but everyone is peeling off 20's without dropping out, so I stuck in knowing I was the next shooter. Made $1120 before anyone else got to shoot! He finally missed and I got to the table, finished that rack, and ran 3 more myself before missing. Some had dropped, and people took their place. Don't remember how long we played, but it calmed down considerably after those first 12 racks or so. I know I ended up winning a few hundred even after losing $160 before I even got to shoot.

All in all, I still tell the story of SURVIVING a ring game, not playing it!

The very best ring game I played in was on a 6'x12' snooker table, 9ball, using standard pool balls! it was awesome....you were never out of it. Great players were missing balls 4" from the pocket. We played $5 on the 5 and $10 on the 9, and I made a little, but the best part was I hung in there with guys 3 or 4 speeds above me. One rack I got a shot on the 3 ball and ran out banking the 9 cross side....best out to this day!
