The consensus thus far seems to be using spit (preferably from a cheerleader or good looking woman), and either cardboard/leather, or 1500-2000 grit sandpaper? That about covers it?
I used to burnish my tip on top of a rail, but that was on my table. Or you could always consider a burnisher like this:

It only takes a few seconds and its done. Just don't over do it and press too hard or you could be looking for some super glue.
I have one in my case.

To the guy above that suggested burnishing the tip on the table rail-don't ever do this unless it's on your own table.
I do believe that I did state that I burnished on my own table!I didn't intend for him to do the same. I was leading up to the tool that I burnish with. I have carried the Porper Burnisher in my case since about 1990 or so.
Anyone use the cueshark pup? I have heard nothing but great things about it but nothing about the burnisher. I think its made of metal.
