Best tool for burnishing tip sides?

I just wet the side of the tip and use a glossy business card right off the pool hall counter !!!

Real simple to use, I do a lot of shaft work on my lathe but will still use the last4ever tip tool if I see the need for a quick repair when I'm shooting and don't feel like cranking up the lathe

Ultimate Burnisher

The moisture off the side of a beer mug and the shoulder strap on my leather cue case is all I have ever needed, and you can't forget and leave it at home either!

The consensus thus far seems to be using spit (preferably from a cheerleader or good looking woman), and either cardboard/leather, or 1500-2000 grit sandpaper? That about covers it?

The consensus is spit :ignore: I think that's the only thing that's been decided here!

I used to burnish my tip on top of a rail, but that was on my table. Or you could always consider a burnisher like this:

It only takes a few seconds and its done. Just don't over do it and press too hard or you could be looking for some super glue.

I have one in my case.

To the guy above that suggested burnishing the tip on the table rail-don't ever do this unless it's on your own table.

I do believe that I did state that I burnished on my own table!:) I didn't intend for him to do the same. I was leading up to the tool that I burnish with. I have carried the Porper Burnisher in my case since about 1990 or so.

No you were clear, someone else recommended a pool table without stating that "if it's your own table."

Formica like the really tough stuff tables used to be topped with is the best thing I have found to burnish a tip on if you don't have a lathe. I used to burnish tips that way after installing them by hand with a razor knife.

Anyone use the cueshark pup? I have heard nothing but great things about it but nothing about the burnisher. I think its made of metal.

I am using that one. That's the best tool I've ever tried, it's like a all in one tool but performs way better than any existing in the market. The burnisher works really well and doesn't damage the tip due to its special structure like it's advertised on its website. Not only the burnisher, all other functions like trimmer, shaper / scuffer do work great for me. One more plus thing, i bought it a year ago but the abrasive hasn't worn out yet.

If anyone is having to carry several tip tools like tip pick, burnisher, trimmer, blah blah blah, you can now forget to bring tons of tools along with you. Give it a try!
