What makes the best big (State, Regional,)tournament? What is the best tournament? and why? What features?

I want to compare more tournaments with the tournaments I attend.

Could you please clarify the question:

1) Are you looking for the best tournament venue for competitors?
2) Are you looking for the best tournament venue for spectators?
3) Are you looking for the best playing setup (scotch doubles vs teams vs singles)?
4) Are you looking for the best playing setup in terms of format (single elimination, double elimination or round robin)?

Thanks.

Sorry I must restate this: The best format and overall event elements ?

One of the greatest state events is the Ocean State Championship, also called the Rhode Island State championships. It is a very popular Joss tour event, and has always been extremely popular with the top players in the Northeast and many others. This past February, the event, held at the popular Snookers Cafe and Billiards in Providence, RI, drew 99 players, a huge field for a regional tour event. Players cite the good food, the great hospitality of the hosts, the absence of loud music, and the deeply talented field that annually assembles there. I've heard Tony Robles describe the Ocean State championship as his favorite regional event of the year, and Mika Immonen has spoken fondly of the event, too.

Sorry I couldn't recommend something a little closer to Oregon, where I notice you're from, but I'm from New York. I hope some of the West Coast crowd will post on this.
