What is the best wood for breaking?

I use Purple heart and I love it compaired to hard rock maple. My friend just got a woodworth with liptus shafts and I like it too. What are the differences here? Also is there a better wood?

purple heart all day is the strongest break shaft i think, can be a little heavy sometimes tho if your making J/B ive made a ash shaft for a break cue aswell it did alright.

i use LYPTUS alot too for break cues and jump cues
it's stiff like purpleheart, but lighter
my typical lyptus shaft weighs about 1/4 to 1/2 ounce less than maple
they make great playing shafts too (IMO) and others i have talked into trying lyptus

for something not on the expensive side, i go for ashwood.

I made a shaft out of Walnut and it was the nutz..... however, what's wrong with maple? There is nothing wrong at all with maple. As long as your technique is good, you can break with a house cue. I personally like to use a buffalo horn ferrule and a white diamond or samsara tip with maple as a perfect break shaft......

Light and stiff is best, in my opinion. Low deflection is a plus too.

i just made my first purple heart break shaft. It breaks real hard, but the draw back is that the shaft is really rigid and stiff. It was honestly hurting my wrist because of the vibrations after breaking the whole night with it.

But again, it hit real hard with a phenolic tip/ferrule combo
