I have been searching the forum and I have not seen a specific thread on this so I thought I would pose the question. What is the cue that has all the best tech with no frills necessary? I am looking for the get the job done, best value cue and shaft out there to take my game to the next level. Any thoughts?

I can't wait to hear what you say.

Thank you all,

I wanted to leave that up to the poster. What is the least pay for maximum performance? How much tech is worth it and when does it stop being a benefit to your pool game and become a marketing tool?

I hope that helps.

Thank you.

If you want to go w/LD shaft the OB122 w/Classic+ shaft is less than $500. If you're thinking solid maple shaft i'd order a Schmelke sneaky($200 or less) and spend the money saved on pooltime.

I believe Mezz cues are the best production cues for the $$ and you are getting laminated shafts.

You're on the wrong track bud if you are thinking a cue is going to take you to the next level. And 99% of the tech is a marketing tool.

IMHO, Gulyassy. He's got a patent-pending butt construction, unique shaft tapers sealed with something that makes them warp resistant, and is coming out with a new proprietary ferule. Not marketing hype, he's spent a lot of time/trial/error coming up with what he thinks is the perfect hitting cue--and I agree. His SPT and SPTX shafts hit sweet, and really move the CB well. Lower deflection than you'd think possible in a solid maple shaft. I think his basic cue starts somewhere in the $600 range, but you can score one discounted from time to time on his Facebook page...definitely worth a look.

Mezz, Schon and Joss all make great cues, solid, consistent performance, and you can get their baseline no-frills models cheaper than a lot of the high tech stuff that's being pushed around.

Hit the nail on the head here.
Now in most cases a decent 2 piece cue will help you play better then a beat up house cue.
But with that being said a brand new quality house cue can play real good.
But to answer your question I think a Pechauar is a great value in an American made cue.
And a Lucasi is a good cue if you don't mind it being made in China.

Good point. But a good feeling cue and solid hit makes some difference. Other than that I have always played a Wayne Robinson custom with laminated basic shaft and basic joint. I feel like a LDF shaft and a Schuler/Lucasi style joint might be worth the investment. Any thoughts?

If price isn't an issue get a Tad plain Jane cue like this http://www.pccues.com/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=498 as they hit really nice. Particularly the older ones made by Tad and have among the best shaft wood available.

Other cues include the old school black boars as they also have a great hit lively and shaft wood.

There are a lot of factors that make a player play better with certain cues and the feel, hit and balance on these older cues IMHO is ahead of the majority of production cues available on today's market. You will be getting a superbly built, solid sturdy players cue that will last you a lifetime.

Schon

By far, buy a Schon. Not only is the quality good but they hold a value if you decide to move on at a later date.

Extra shafts are easily had and almost every LD after market maker makes a shaft that will fit one.

Buy the best gun in the world......shoot it in a match using iron sights (non-telescopic).
It always remains true the shooter decides the outcome, not the weapon being fired.

There is no fast way to paradise. All sinners earn their way and it's called practice time.
Find any cue you like & invest sweat & tears like so many others to elevate your game.

This is very subjective and, as such, you will be hearing lots of opinions.

Over the last 5 or so years, whenever there has been a threade come up asking which production cue is best, the top 3 consistently are (in no particular order) Schon, Mezz & Pechauer. Joss does also get a lot of honorable mentions.

for 'best bang for the buck' customs, Olney and Diveney cues come up a lot and, of course there are others.

then if the price isn't an object there are the Motteys, Ginas, Searings, Scruggs, Whites, Black Boars, Southwests, and etc etc etc...

You can get cues for just a few hundred that will not hold you back whatsoever.

gl finding a new cue.

Schmelke Sneaky Pete ~ research that on here, it'll change the shape of your head !!!

For the money this can't be beat.

For me, I'd buy a Joey, or maybe the mason bill lister is selling. I really want the Joey on Facebook currently though.
