If I were you, I would leave it in a vice for 48 hours and crank down as much as it will allow..... you will have a tip about half the size and it won't mushroom like a normal one.... fahgett-about-the-milk.....

That also results in hardening the tip, which may or may not be what the players likes

If i had a pre-shaped crown on the tip I would simply lay the backside on a flat surface with some 180 grit sandpaper......sand as much off as you want....and have a perfectly flat face and prepared surface for gluing. Why ever bother with razor blades.....unless your really trying to make 2 outta 1. Sand as many layers as you want off the back side and install.
