Best way to get beer out of felt

Heck, don't bill him $100, take him out for a steak dinner for having an excuse to finally get away from red cloth!

Once the cloth is changed, do what I do on my home table. If ANYBODY brings a drink within 3 feet of my table it's a "foul" and 5 bucks goes into the nightly pot. At the end of the night, we play 3 ball for the pot... with a couple bucks added of course. :)

I like that idea.

I would sugest woolite and water to clean the beer stain with, not febreeze...as it's not a cleaner what-so-ever;)

Febreeze is an odor remover. Baking soda works as well. I didn't say it is a cleaner.

However whatever you suggest is probably best as I would think that your extensive experience covers these situations. So with that I defer to you.

What kind of cloth and what color? I assume it's a slate table with worsted wool, like Simonis.

Whatever you use you will likely leave a stain ring on the wool. The darker the fabric, the worse the stain ring.

So, there are 2 stages - 1) the cleaning and 2) the stain removal.

The suggestion of Woolite diluted with water is a good one for cleaning. Use it sparingly, preferably in a spray bottle with a soft white cloth- you don't want to soak it but get it wet enough to penetrate the slate (like the beer did). Let that dry for a week or so (the slate absords the moisture so it takes awhile for it to dry).

Once it dries completely and you have a stain ring left, try to gently rub the edges out with a nylon suede brush. There is another way I use of removing the stain edges , but you have to be very careful as some of the color might be removed too and it can leave a light spot.

Chris

The stain rings come from salt and other minerals left when the liquid evaporates.

A steam cleaner can help to eliminate these.

I never tried one but it's a good idea and definitely something I'll try - what do you do, John, rent them?

I bought a mid sized one at WalMart for like $50 iirc. You can use them for everything. We use them at shows to do all the shirts and pants.

I have a little hand held one that I bought here for $10.

This one I think would be the nuts for keeping a pool table clean.

One of the local rooms here uses something similar to clean their 60 tables every night. One person vacuums each table, another one cleans the rails and another one finishes up with the steamer. All 60 tables every night.

I'll try it - what I like is the steam cleans all the way through the cloth instead of just pushing it down. Nice to know they don't stain. I would be a little worried if they were dripping water on the cloth though. Do you use distilled water?

I don't use distilled water and I am sure that they don't either. However it is better to use distilled or at least filtered water to reduce the amount of minerals in the water.

When someone sees a water stain on leather it's generally only due to the minerals in the water.

It's perfectly ok to use water to clean pool tables. I use a damp rag and we get the table wet and when it dries it literally sparkles.

Any time water is spilled then blot it up and use a clean damp rag to wipe down the area and you won't see any water stain.

It's only when the liquid is allowed to stand an evaporate on it's own that the stains show up. Regarding water that is. Anything like wine or any drink with aid or ade in it tends to discolor the cloth. There is generally no help in this situation.
