I hope this hasnt been coverd. I tried looking but found nothing. I started doing my own tips and wanna know the best way to trim the tips flush with the ferrule. Without having to buy the willard tipper or a lathe. Will the porper shaver work on layered tips? Or will it delaminate them? Any suggestions?

Also whats the best way to get the nickel or dime radius once its flush with the ferrule. Thanks in advance.

Before I got my lathe, I did tips by hand and I used that Porper's Mushroom grazer. Either that, or a razor blade scraping upwards. Then as carefully as you can, sand the side of the tip like you're shining a shoe without sanding the ferrule. You can burnish it by rubbing it on the side of the rail with a little high quality spit.....

Use a Chisel. Sliced the tip millimeter by millimeter around.

Using sandpaper and by rotating the cue using your other hand when sanding the tip.

Put the shaft in a rubber holder that is used to work on golf club shafts and put the shaft in a vice. Use plumbers pipe paper and use it like you were shining your shoes, with a right to left motion. This is easy and will give you results that rival a lathe.

I used a Big Shaver for a couple of years before I got my first Lathe. If your fairly good with your hands they work fine. But it always made me nervous thinking I was going to twist off my ferrule tennon. I never did but I could see it happening.

Thanks for the input guys, Ill try the porper musheroom gazer then the big shaver. The whole point of doing my tips was to save money; and buying the willard machine wouldve defeated the purpose. So ill start small and experiment. Thanks
