Better Than Me...?

Heres one for ya

I was at a tournament and after getting knock out was steered by
a "friend" to play a guy named Pat.
I asked by buddy who plays great if he knew him and he did not. Being
we were there together we both decided to take and try him a few
$200 sets. Afterall we were told it was a fair game.
I got the balls and headed down through a long row or tables on side by side
and as I passed each one I got asked what me and Pat were doing or if we were playing but most of all people just said " oh, your playing Pat, alright".

It didnt take long to see that I had been steered into a trap because the
guy staking him was the guy that steered me. We posted two sets and
I was down one and in the second when I found out. My buddy told me
that he had found out about the steering backer.
As I walked to the table I said I did not care that he would HAVE TO BEAT
ME and that the pressure was on him. I beat him that set and
the next set and then instead of quiting I asked went over and
told the "steer man" that Pat wanted to raise the bet. We played a few more sets and I ended up winning the post money and another
$300 set. He breaks it down.
I then walk over tot he tournament room and find the "steer man" and tell him
the Pat wants to raise the stakes to 300 -400 a set. He had been watching the tournament and was no watching us so he did not know I knew he was
staking the guy. He said he would that I had a fair game. I walked away and then stopped and called back to him " Well, you better get him some more money because YOU are $700 stuck right now".
No one said a word.
I walked out and got the balls as Pat was trying to explain the loss.
As I walked back through the row of tables the same people were
saying in shock "you beat Pat" or had looks of disbelief on their faces.
I paid the time and walked outside with my buddy. We laughed and
joked about it for a few days. We still joke about it from time to
time if we are playing.
Dont worry about how someone thinks you play just make them beat you.
I think it raised my game that day knowing I was trapped. No matter
how good the guy is they still have to get out.

I was just curious as to whether any of the other players here ever had this happen to them and how they handled it.

A guy in this pool room started playing a few years ago. He is a pretty decent player and I'll rank him honestly on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being a novice and 10 being a respectable pro, like this:

• shot-making: 7
• position: 3
• break: 7
• pressure handling: 5

The thing is, all around, I am a much better player. I am a better shot-maker, play WAY better position, have about an equal break, and handle pressure better. Yet, all of his redneck friends (and I use the term in all sincerity without any degradation) say that he is better than me. I enjoy this partially because I can play him any time I want and 95% of the time I take him to school. I've even broke him on several occasions, once to the point of having to pawn his cue to pay me (his decision, not mine, I told him keep it). Yet, those same idiots always say he's better than me. What gives? Am I missing something? Of the top ten players at my PH, he doesn't even rank, whereas I do. Anybody ever had this happen? It pisses me off to no end to hear them talk about how "good" he is. Any opinions?

Then same thing happened to me at Sharp Shooters one night frankncali. We were having one of those Saturday night tourneys when the guy I was about to play came over to me and said "I got to play you right"and looked over at his buddies and said "this is money in the bank".Well,I went on to beat him pretty bad.It gave me a boost knowing he said what he said and I went and thanked him.

It's nice to put a plug on someone. I don't gamble much, but once a pretty good player (and a loudmouth) came to our pool club shouting loud "who wants a piece of me, any game, any bet, I'll beat you !!". I think we played 9-ball race to 7 for $20. In no time, I was leading 5-0 and he had perhaps 1-2 real chances so far. I played an excellent snooker on him and he threw $20 to the table and told that he wasn't playing against me anymore and charged out of the room. I could've eased on him a little bit to get more jellybeans in the following sets, but the way it went gave me a wide smile on my face. During our set he was loud and I didn't say a word, but still I got the last word ! :D

Just how much money do you think has been donated, over the years, because of those three letters, EGO? Billions. Be smart and match up well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$Bill

Good point $Bill. Ego and GREED too. They say gamblers only know two emotions; Greed and Fear.

I've learned that the better I get at pool, the higher the volume of nasty comments about myself.

No one ever talks about players who never win.

If you want to have some fun, play some of these people and always let the worst players win, then beat the heck out of the better players.

As they say in Hollywood... "Just spell the name right!"
