Heres one for ya
I was at a tournament and after getting knock out was steered by
a "friend" to play a guy named Pat.
I asked by buddy who plays great if he knew him and he did not. Being
we were there together we both decided to take and try him a few
$200 sets. Afterall we were told it was a fair game.
I got the balls and headed down through a long row or tables on side by side
and as I passed each one I got asked what me and Pat were doing or if we were playing but most of all people just said " oh, your playing Pat, alright".
It didnt take long to see that I had been steered into a trap because the
guy staking him was the guy that steered me. We posted two sets and
I was down one and in the second when I found out. My buddy told me
that he had found out about the steering backer.
As I walked to the table I said I did not care that he would HAVE TO BEAT
ME and that the pressure was on him. I beat him that set and
the next set and then instead of quiting I asked went over and
told the "steer man" that Pat wanted to raise the bet. We played a few more sets and I ended up winning the post money and another
$300 set. He breaks it down.
I then walk over tot he tournament room and find the "steer man" and tell him
the Pat wants to raise the stakes to 300 -400 a set. He had been watching the tournament and was no watching us so he did not know I knew he was
staking the guy. He said he would that I had a fair game. I walked away and then stopped and called back to him " Well, you better get him some more money because YOU are $700 stuck right now".
No one said a word.
I walked out and got the balls as Pat was trying to explain the loss.
As I walked back through the row of tables the same people were
saying in shock "you beat Pat" or had looks of disbelief on their faces.
I paid the time and walked outside with my buddy. We laughed and
joked about it for a few days. We still joke about it from time to
time if we are playing.
Dont worry about how someone thinks you play just make them beat you.
I think it raised my game that day knowing I was trapped. No matter
how good the guy is they still have to get out.

A guy in this pool room started playing a few years ago. He is a pretty decent player and I'll rank him honestly on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being a novice and 10 being a respectable pro, like this:
• shot-making: 7
• position: 3
• break: 7
• pressure handling: 5
The thing is, all around, I am a much better player. I am a better shot-maker, play WAY better position, have about an equal break, and handle pressure better. Yet, all of his redneck friends (and I use the term in all sincerity without any degradation) say that he is better than me. I enjoy this partially because I can play him any time I want and 95% of the time I take him to school. I've even broke him on several occasions, once to the point of having to pawn his cue to pay me (his decision, not mine, I told him keep it). Yet, those same idiots always say he's better than me. What gives? Am I missing something? Of the top ten players at my PH, he doesn't even rank, whereas I do. Anybody ever had this happen? It pisses me off to no end to hear them talk about how "good" he is. Any opinions?
