Big announcement from Matchroom today

Not much for US ranking events. US Open and DCC are. International Open isn't.

And I'm surprised the CSI/Predator US Pro Billiard Series events aren't either. There's not much conflict on the calendar with Matchroom events. Only the Ohio event conflicts with the US Open which I'm thinking will hurt the Ohio event a ton.

There needs to be domestic US ranking events or else we are only going to get US players that are more interested in spending the majority of their time abroad. Seems like something is missing to me.

Here is a more complete listing I just got from Matchroom. The Int'l Open is a ranking event but not a Major due to the prize fund size.

I admittedly didn't read any of the MR materials. Is there a bonus / prize for the player with the most ranking points (like FedEx points in golf) or are they only used to seed Mosconi?

Regardless it's great to see some organization.
I think it seeds all their invitationals. World Cup of Pool, World Pool Masters, Premier League Pool, and Mosconi Cup.

Looks like it was a mistake on the site. I agree with the others that there needs to be more US/NA events. Particularly if they are using their ranking list to determine Mosconi Cup selections. But perhaps that will coming in 2023.

Hoping they don't overlap with exiting events like the Expo and the International.

He is a prolific promoter!

Matchroom is thrilled to announce the inauguration of the Nineball Pool World Rankings. The rankings will become the cornerstone of the game globally to recognise Nineball as the main commercial discipline of the sport, sanctioned by the World Pool Billiard Association.

The establishment of the Matchroom Nineball World Rankings propels Matchroom’s further commitment to the growth of pool globally.

The Matchroom Nineball World Rankings will promote clear, fair, and concise rules to develop the professional aspect of the sport across the world and will:

Yup!

Emily was just on the Pool Player Podcast and said she reached out to Turning Stone and Zuglan was not interested, and to CSI/Predator and they want to keep going with Tenball®. She also said the NBL was interested, and she hoped that lots of US promoters would ask to be included in the list. Of course, they have certain requirements to be included, i.e., it has to be Nineball, but we don't know other requirements. She talked about pocket size, break requirements, etc., but it wasn't clear if those were requirements to be part of the ranking this year.

they didn't announce that in the slightest bit. Only real news was the announcement of the new European Open in Germany.
I think garczar is right to call it a tour announcement. There was only one new event announced, but what is a tour but an organized series of events. This creates some standardization across events, and rewards for getting up on the point list: entry to the invitational events, including the Mosconi Cup. Their whole point was that this is just a start and they hope other events ask to be a part of it.

On the Cue It Up podcast Neight mentioned he was on the NBL executive board. He didn't list any of the stipulations but he did send the impression it was more than just 9 ball on a 9 foot table. He also made it sound like quite the checklist of specific requirements. Kinda impressed DCC got on board.

I was just listening to that, and it sounds like they’re giving the events a lot of freedom in 2022, but they plan to have more strict requirements in the coming years, like pocket size, break rules, etc. Did you get that from what they said?

Why is the World Pool Championship listed as a "Major" but the US Open is a "Blue Ribbon" event? According to this, blue ribbon is >300K prize fund, which both of those tournaments have. Is there some other difference? And does this mean that the US open is a bigger event than the World Pool Championship? Or is this just a typo?
