wow, is this yang's first time in the states? wonder if this means he's making a tour?

warren..

Warren, Yang will be in the state for the Challenge of Champions and will head off to the Big Apple event right afterward. It looks like almost everyone from the Challenge of Champions except for Earl and John Horsfall are heading off to New York right afterwards.

there was the mohican sun the day before, and las vegas the following weekend,,,so the big apple is sandwiched nicely between two big tourneys. btw,,,i got my ticket and i must say master's billiards is a terrific pool hall.

what i was wondering, bruin and mike, is if yang will be playing in the u.s. open -- from the posts i have seen it seems the answer is likely no. i'd like to see how a chinese/taiwanese player would do if given 3-6 months over here, and i think yang would kick some serious butt. unfortunately, it's not a likely scenario in the near future considering the policies of those countries in regards to granting status to leave the country.

What a shame that Earl Strickland, the former American WPC champion, is unable to play in the Big Apple tournament, a UPA-sanctioned event. Originally an independent event, the UPA sanctioning came along after its creation. This tourney is now a part of what is called the "UPA TOUR," and the UPA dictates who shall attend, and who is eligible to attend, any event on the UPA Tour.

Why isn't Earl Strickland attending, when every single other champion in the world will be there? Earl will be in the International Challenge of Champions, the $50,000 championship held the day before. The players who were "invited" to attend that event, with the exception of one, will be going to Big Apple tourney following this event in CT, right next door to New York City, the very next day.

I BELIEVE, but have no independent knowledge, THAT EARL STRICKLAND IS NOT ATTENDING Big Apple tourney BECAUSE OF THE UPA. I hope I am wrong.

"The UNITED Professional Pool Players Association" is an American organization, and the former American world champ (just last year, folks) is unable to attend. Look at the player roster and check out all of the non-American participants. Discrimination in its ugliest form, IMO.

it IS because it is a upa sanctioned event that ES will not attend. to be fair, one should blame both sides for not coming together, although it has been very chi-chi to criticize only the UPA.

whatever goings on between the UPA and master's to make this event UPA sanctioned is known only to them. originally, there were considerable differences between both parties, and at one point it sounded unmanageable to me. but they ironed it out,,whatever the problems were. it's good to see they worked out all their issues. it's very ADULT of them.

"discrimination in its ugliest form"?????? c'mon,,,we don't even know whether ES has reached out or the UPS has reached out. how about " all around STUPIDITY and POOL PLAYER PRIDE in its ugliest form?

The UPA wants to get it's d**k beaters involved in anything with good money added, that way they can get "THEIR" top 16 seeded(handicapped into the $$!). God forbid Charlie and Rodney could have to play first round...............................

"Support the U.S. OPEN!!"

I'm going to pay entry even if work may stop me from being there.

At any time when an entity intentionally, i.e., player contracts, post-sanctioning categorizations of "local non-pro," "local pro," and "professional pool player," post-sanctioning mandatory $25 fee trap, prevents someone from earning a living in their chosen profession, it is discriminatory in nature.

Still looks like a good tournament.

It will be a GREAT tournament if ALL incoming players get by the UPA bouncers at the gate.

The player roster looks brutally tough. Some new names I haven't heard of before. Can't wait to get there and see the best in the world compete in this brand-new venue.

AGAIN, what a SHAME Earl Strickland, the past WPC champion, is not attending. Can't believe UPA is getting away with this, but, as I posted previously, there will be an earth-shaking denouncement on Queens Boulevard West if UPA attempts to bar any incoming players from playing in an event they sanctioned after the fact when Alexandra Dyer placed her good trust in their hands. They knew what they were doing, and she, thinking she would get assistance and support, got duped.
