Another wood I haven't seen at all. Have any of you gentlemen used this stuff in the building of a cue? What's your feelings about it? It looks like gorgeous stuff.

First off since this is big leaf maple it is soft, and when you add to that the fact that it is Burl it is also brittle. Burl tends to fracture along the eye's and figure produced by the grain.

It can be used in a cue, and it certainly will be beautiful. But, it must be cored with another hard wood, depending upon the stiffness of the hit that some one wants you could use Rosewood, Purple Heart, Sugar or Black Maple, or even ebony. I am currently building a cue with a Maple Burl Butt, that is cored with a Phenolic Tube used for joint collars.

Hope this helps

That's an exceptional piece in the butt-sleeve of the Manzino.

I use it quite a bit, particularly on this series of cues. These are part of the '45' series of cues which are currently on display on the Seybert's web-site.

Actually, I have way more than I'll ever use so if anyone would be interested in some, drop me a PM and I'll try to hook you up with what you're looking for. Thanx Much, KJ

I've got one going now with a cored Maple Burl forearm. Nice looking cue, but I'm not sure how it's going to hit yet. It's the only cue I have in the works that isn't spoken for, but I won't sell it until I've hit with it. I've used burls in a bunch of cues, but never in the forearm yet.

Here is one I made out of hard maple burl. It was cored, of course.

Hey Tony. Lemme see that cue. If it's not spoken for...and it hits fine..look me up. :-p

From what I've read...nearly every burl has its share of pitfalls...none of which seem to need anything more than stabilization...be it through coring or resin imprenation.

Either way...it's shocking this stuff isn't more prevalent with as gorgeous as the figuring tends to be.

I'll send you a photo later. It has a pink veneer, well Fruit Punch, which looks pretty pink. I won't make any promises with it though until I've tried it out and it's probably 3-4 months from completion.

Tony...3-4 months is cool with ME. Here's to hoping it's a killer. :-) Thank you for the consideration. Much appreciated.

Here's a photo of the forearm. I should attach it to a handle in the next week or two. I was going to inlay it too, but I'll leave it up to you. I think it will be fine as it's cored, but like I said, I haven't made a cue with a burl forearm yet, so I want to be sure. I've used this in a handle or two and the customers were happy.
